Former Central High School girls basketball coach and business teacher Matthew Lindholm was sentenced Monday to five years intensive probation after previously pleading guilty to a felony charge of attempted sexual assault of a student during the 2007 school year. He must also register as a sex offender.

Lindholm, 33, confessed to kissing and fondling a 14-year-old female student who played basketball.

Family members and friends of the victim, along with members of Lindholm’s family, appeared at Monday’s emotional hearing. The victim’s mother told Mesa County District Judge Richard Gurley that Lindholm’s actions severed ties between her and the teenager, and also damaged the teen’s relationships with her friends and others on the basketball team.

“I always wanted to believe children are safe,” the victim’s mother said. “(She) was taken advantage of. He manipulated her into thinking her life should revolve around him. Mr. Lindholm stole these years away from (her) and me.”

The victim’s family members said the teen was subjected to ridicule and harassment from parents and other students this year after news of the student and teacher relationship emerged.

A former Hinkley High School athletic trainer who police say had sex with a student will plead guilty to attempted sexual assault on a child in exchange for prosecutors dropping more serious charges against her.

Yvette Starzyk, 26, appeared in Adams County Court on Monday, Sept. 29, for a disposition hearing.

Starzyk accepted a plea deal that stipulates she will plead guilty to the felony attempted sexual assault charge in exchange for prosecutors dropping other charges, including sexual assault on a child-pattern of abuse and sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust. Police use the "sexual assault on a child-pattern of abuse" charge when the suspect alledgedly engages in two or more sexual incidents with a child.

The attempted sexual assault charge carries a term of up to three years in prison, but neither prosecutors or Starzyk's lawyer said yesterday how much, if any, prison time she is expected to face under the terms of the deal.

The plea deal between Starzyk and prosecutors will not be finalized until her sentencing in December. Starzyk's lawyer said he wanted to wait to officially accept the deal until after the probation department completes a pre-sentence investigation.

A former Wasson High School substitute teacher pleaded guilty Wednesday to harassment for propositioning a 15-year-old male student.

Lloyd Clark Jr., 73, pleaded guilty to a charge of misdemeanor harassment, unlawful conduct on public property, as part of an agreement with prosecutors. A felony charge of solicitation for child prostitution was dropped, court records show. Colorado Springs police investigators said Clark - known as "Gramps" to many students - offered to pay the boy $1,000 to allow Clark to perform oral sex on the boy.

Police later had the student call the teacher and taped Clark arranging a time and place for him to meet the student and pay him $20 for sex, the arrest affidavit states.

Clark could have faced up to life in prison had he been convicted of the felony.

A former middle school girls basketball coach originally charged with multiple counts of felony sexual assault pleaded guilty Monday to a misdemeanor harassment charge.

Gregory Jackson, 35, agreed to surrender his teaching certificate for a year while he's on probation as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors.

"I'm happy I was cleared of the sexual charges," Jackson said after the hearing. "I didn't do that. I didn't touch these kids in a sexual manner."

Jackson faced up to life in prison if he had been convicted of any of the five felony sexual assault on a child charges.

Senior Deputy District Attorney Nan Scranton dropped those charges as part of the plea agreement, which was mediated before a senior district judge. She told 4th Judicial District Judge Gilbert Martinez that the girls and their parents signed off on the plea agreement.

The arrest affidavit of Fremont County teacher's aide Stephanie Bellino reveals she was overly friendly to young male students.  Bellino, 39, is charged with two counts of sexual assault on a child by one in position of trust.  She remains on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of her case.

"I had some concerned people come into the police department," explains Florence Police Chief Timothy Bell.  "(To) talk to me about some information they had--some strange goings-on.  For us to make an arrest in such a short period of time, is pretty incredible."

Authorities say they learned of Bellino's alleged behavior on Aug. 14, after being approached by employees of the Fremont RE-2 School District.  The employees had spoken with students who recently found text messages from Bellino on a classmate's cell phone left behind at a party. The students recognized the source phone number of the texts as Bellino's, and said she freely gave her number out to students.  The classmate was 13 years old last year, and then a student at Fremont Middle School.

According to the affidavit, Bellino was seen kissing a high school sophomore outside a football game last fall; and in June was seen kissing a college-age male at a swimming pool in Florence. Others say they while noticed her friendliness toward young males, they did not witness any inappropriate behavior.  They also say Bellino has a son of middle-school age who socialized with classmates.

A former Ault high school teacher and UNC adjunct instructor has entered an Alford plea to a charge of unlawful sexual contact involving a teenager. John Rogers Cochran, 42, is accused of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old female student in 2006, while he was a teacher at Highland High School school. An Alford plea allows a person to maintain their innocence but also admits there is enough evidence that they could be convicted.

A charge of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust was dropped as part of the plea bargain. Cochran will have to register as a sex offender and will no be allowed contact with anyone younger than 18, including his own children.

A Jefferson County teachers's aide who tried to solicit sex over the Internet from someone posing as an underage girl has been sentenced to three years of intense supervised probation, but will avoid jail time.

Frank Pierce, 31, was a teacher's aide at an elementary school and also coached girl's basketball in a recreation league, according to the Jefferson County District Attorney's office.

His sentence, handed down today, includes three years Sex Offender Intensive Supervision Probation. He'll also be required to register as a sex offender.

DA investigators arrested Pierce last November after they recorded him using sexually explicit language online to someone he believes was an underage teen. He actually was chatting to an undercover investigator.

There is enough stress for students already, who needs your teacher threatening to fail you if you do not perform a sex act on him? Yes, this actually happened. High school teacher Ralph Kelly stands accused of threatening to fail a student if the boy did not perform a sex act on him.

Ralph Kelly, a Social Studies and German teacher at Brighton Collegiate High School, pleaded not guilty to sex assault on a child by a person in a position of trust. Kelly was arrested in December and released on a $1 million bond.

According to the arrest affidavit obtained by 9NEWS, a 16-year-old boy told Brighton Police that Kelly called him into a classroom during school hours and told him, "If you cherish your grades, you'll do what I say."

Prosecutors say a school music instructor has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a 17-year-old female student.The Jefferson County District Attorney's office says William Samuel Paxton sent the student several text messages every day and gave her a cell phone so they could talk. Prosecutors say Paxton then invited the student to his apartment twice where he sexually assaulted her.

Paxton was the student's coach in marching band.

The former drama teacher at Mountain Range High School was arrested last week after accusations surfaced that he sexually assaulted a student. Jeremy Dennis, 25, was arrested on May 23 for two counts of felony sex assault on a child by a person in a position of trust.

He is also charged with sex assault in a pattern of abuse. The Mountain Range High School administration sent a letter to parents on the day of the arrest explaining the situation.

Dennis is accused of having inappropriate contact with a student three days before his arrest. The school administration says Dennis had resigned prior to his arrest, saying he was taking another teaching position.

Thompson School District teacher Michael Gaylor was sentenced Tuesday morning to 12 months in jail for attempted sexual exploitation of a 16-year-old girl.

Judge James Hiatt, after hearing emotionally-packed statements from the victim, her mother, Gaylor’s father, Dan, and Gaylor himself, handed down the decision and also sentenced Gaylor to 10 years of sexual offender intensive supervised probation.

Gaylor was immediately taken to the Larimer County Detention Center to begin serving his sentence.

Gaylor, a Walt Clark social studies teacher since 2003, pleaded guilty to attempted sexual exploitation of a child and sex assault with a 10-year age difference in March for fondling a friend of his daughter’s while the girl, Gaylor’s daughter and Gaylor watched a movie at the Gaylor residence in November.

A musician who has taught instrumental music at several local studios has been arrested for sexual assault. According to the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, Lloyd Pollard, 47, of Lyons, was arrested Friday on two counts of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust and two counts of aggravated incest.

The victims have not been identified. Pollard has performed professionally around the state in addition to his teaching.

Investigators are concerned there may be more victims. They say they have been in touch with the management of the studios where Pollard taught.

A Jefferson County grand jury has indicted a former Jefferson County teacher and coach on a charge of tampering/destruction of physical evidence.

Nicole Marie Sirbu, 29, was a teacher at Stony Creek Elementary School and a coach for the combined Columbine and Chatfield high school pole-vaulting team from Sept. 1, 2006, until Oct. 1, 2007.

On Sept. 26, 2007, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office began investigating an allegation that Sirbu had "inappropriate sexual contact" with a 17-year-old Columbine student on the pole-vaulting team.

Sirbu had exchanged numerous e-mails with the student using her work e-mail address and her work laptop, investigators said.

A former teacher at Brighton High School has a mid-April court date after he allegedly used the Internet to arrange sex with a minor and sent pictures of his genitalia to an undercover investigator.

Andrew Charles Weaver, 28, of Adams County, appeared Thursday in a Mesa County courtroom, where Judge Gretchen Larson set Weaver's bond at $25,000.

Authorities arrested Weaver last month on suspicion of Internet sexual exploitation of a child. He's accused of engaging in sexually explicit conversation with a law enforcement officer posing as a 14-year-old girl, and also of sending live pictures via the Internet of him rubbing his genitalia.
