A 29-year-old former Connecticut high school football coach has been sentenced to 46 months in prison on federal child sex charges.

Prosecutors say 29-year-old Jonathan DesRosier of Norwich had several explicit online chats with a person he believed was a 14-year-old girl, asking if she wanted to see him naked and learn to perform sexual acts.

He was arrested Nov. 16, 2007, by FBI agents and Milford police when he arrived at a bowling alley to meet the girl, who was actually an undercover police officer.

DesRosier, a former assistant football coach at Norwich Free Academy, was sentenced Monday by U.S. District Judge Peter Dorsey in New Haven. He had faced up to 57 months in prison after agreeing to a plea deal in October.

Groton Town police have charged a 31-year-old woman who worked as a teacher's assistant at Fitch High School with engaging in sexual misconduct with one student and providing alcohol to two students.

Shanna Couture, 31, of 9 Fred Ave., was charged last week with two counts of second-degree sexual assault, risk of injury to a minor and two counts of delivery of alcohol to a minor. She has resigned from her position as a paraprofessional.

Town police began investigating on Dec. 18 after receiving information from school officials that an employee of the high school had allegedly engaged in sexual misconduct with a student. The incidents allegedly took place during December in Groton, according to Lt. John W. Varone.

Though the student involved in the sexual relationship was old enough to legally consent to sex, Couture was charged under a section of the state law that forbids school employees from having sexual relationships with students. Further information on the case was unavailable since Couture has not yet been arraigned in New London Superior Court.

Couture, who was arrested on Dec. 23, posted a $20,000 bond. She is scheduled to make her first court appearance on Jan. 12.

Superintendent Paul Kadri said that while the investigation took place, the school district took extra precautions to ensure that everyone was safe and their rights were protected.

A former city elementary school teacher faces criminal charges for allegedly hiding a video camera in a classroom closet and videotaping girls as they changed into costumes in preparation for a Halloween pageant.

Thomas Bavedas, 39, who resigned as a third-grade teacher at Waltersville School last May after his arrest for allegedly sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl in Milford, was arrested again Monday. This time, he was charged with nine counts of voyeurism and nine counts of risk of injury to a minor.

Bavedas, of Brooklawn Drive, Milford, free on bond in the earlier case, surrendered to Milford police after being told there was a warrant for his arrest here. He is awaiting trial in Milford Superior Court on charges of marijuana and cocaine possession, first-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor, possession of child pornography, importing child pornography and employing a minor in an obscene performance.

Bavedas, dressed in a black hooded sweat shirt, his hands chained behind his back, was later brought before Superior Court Judge Bruce Levin.

The judge shook his head as he read the warrant affidavit. He then glanced to Bavedas who stood beside his lawyer, Edmund Q. Collier, shifting from one foot to the other.

Assistant State's Attorney Marc Durso urged the judge to set a high bond for Bavedas because of the serious nature of the charges.

A Connecticut State Police have charged a Willimantic magnet school teacher with multiple counts of sexual assault for having a relationship with a 15-year-old student. Troopers said Adam Friedman, 44, of Newington, an instructor at the ACT Magnet High School, surrendered to police Monday. He was to be arraigned later in the day at Rockville Superior Court on 10 counts of second-degree sexual assault, one count of fourth-degree sexual assault and 11 counts of risk of injury or impairing the morals of a minor.

Friedman is being held in lieu of $750,000 bond. He could not be reached for comment, and it's not clear if he has a lawyer. The charges, when combined, could result in a life prison sentence if Friedman is convicted.

A week after the close of the four-year case of Julie Amero, the Connecticut substitute teacher accused of exposing middle-students to online smut, Sunbelt Software CEO Alex Eckelberry doesn't see any real win in the settlement.

"What can I say," he shrugged during a conversation earlier this week concerning the final decision. Ms. Amero, a substitute teacher prosecuted on felony charges after a malware-infected computer in her classroom began spewing ads for adult entertainment sites, agreed to plead guilty to a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge, pay a $100 fine, and surrender her credentials to teach in the state of Connecticut. "I'm disappointed it ever got this far."

The incident occurred in October 2004. Parents of some students complained, and the school district contacted the police. To the dismay of forensics experts, the district was unable to provide firewall records or prove that any significant anti-malware protections were installed on Amero's machine, although she had been instructed never to shut it off.

A former substitute teacher in Beacon Falls has been charged with having inappropriate sexual contact with a teenage student.

State police say 59-year-old Kenneth Langshultz was arrested Thursday at his Prospect home on a warrant charging him with fourth-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor.

Police say it stems from an incident with a 15-year-old female student at Woodland High School in Beacon Falls.

Langshultz was released on $10,000 bond and is slated to be arraigned Oct. 20 in Derby Superior Court. Information was not immediately available on whether he had an attorney.

Police have arrested a former teacher at a school for the deaf The Deaf in West Hartford, Connecticuton on charges that she sexually assaulted a student. Police said Julie Denno, 27, who worked at the American School for the Deaf in West Hartford, has been charged with second-degree sexual assault and impairing the morals of a minor.

Police said the assaults occurred at Denno’s home with a 15-year-old boy. Police said Denno’s bail was set at $75,000. She was slated to be arraigned Friday in Bristol Superior Court, police said.

Officials said Denno and her students exchanged almost 3,000 text messages, some of them explicit, during a two-month period. Denno, who is also deaf, has since been fired, officials said. She's been living with her parents in New York, police said, but turned herself in when she was informed a warrant was out for her arrest.

William Boulanger

William Boulanger, 58, a social studies teacher at Southington High School, in Southington Connecticut has been charged with the sexual assault of a minor.

Boulanger was arrested on charges of fourth-degree sexual assault, risk of injury to a minor and second-degree unlawful restraint. The charges are the result of an alleged incident in July.

Police say that the alleged victim is not a student at the school.

Boulanger turned himself in to police earlier this month upon learning of a warrant issued for his arrest.

Boulanger is free on $10,000 bond He was placed on administrative leave with pay prior to the start of the current school year. Reportedly details of the case have been sealed by the court.

Bryan Moore, 25, a a social studies teacher at RHAM High School in Hebron, Connecticut has been arrested and charged with risk of injury to a minor and enticing a minor.

It is alleged that Moore engaged a female student in inappropriate sexually based interactions online. Police say that Moore sent inappropriate e-mails and text messages to the teenager.

Moore came to the attention of authorities on September 17 by way of a tip from the state Department of Children and Families hot line. Moore surrendered to police on Monday afternoon after a warrant for his arrest was obtained. Moore was subsequently released on $25,000 bond and has a court appearance set for October 7th. Reportedly Moore has been placed on suspension by the school system.

A former St. Bernard teacher and coach received a suspended sentence today in Hartford Superior Court for soliciting a minor on his computer.

Michael Garvie III, 31, of Colchester is required to register as a sex offender for 10 years while he is on probation.

Judge David Gold said Garvie engaged in a classic pattern of grooming the 15-year-old for a sexual rendezvous. The 15-year-old was actually a Bloomfield officer working in an Internet sex sting.

Garvie, who was newly married at the time of his arrest, apologized to his wife, family and to the St. Bernard community for his actions.

A former Glastonbury High School teacher who had a sexual relationship with a student was sentenced to probation Monday in Superior Court in Hartford.

Zachary Loavenbruck, 31, formerly of Coventry, pleaded guilty to coercion before Judge David Gold. The plea was entered under the Alford doctrine, which means he does not admit guilt, but acknowledges there is enough evidence to secure a conviction.

Loavenbruck's full sentence is one year in jail, suspended, and two years of probation. He must not teach during his probationary period, Gold said.

The coercion charge was substituted for the original charge of second-degree sexual assault of a student. Even though the sex was consensual and the student was an adult at the time — 18 years old — state law prohibits it because of his position as a teacher. The law targets health professionals as well.

A paraprofessional at New Britain High School is facing charges of sexual assault. Sources told Eyewitness News that 52-year-old Theodore Morris is accused of making an 18-year-old student take obscene photos of herself. Morris was arrested by New Britain police late last week on charges of sex assault, coercion and obscenity.

Sources told Eyewitness News that Morris made the student take sexual photos and then he distributed them. Sources also told Eyewitness News that Morris made the girl submit to sexual contact under duress.

A retired Westport teacher has been sentenced to more than 10 years behind bars for downloading thousands of images of child pornography from the Internet.

Prosecutors say 69-year-old Paul Held pleaded guilty last spring to one count of receiving child pornography. A judge has ordered him to serve 121 months in federal prison, pay a $30,000 fine and register as a sex offender upon his release.

Prosecutors say investigators seized more than 1,000 compact discs from Held's home at the time of his August 2005 arrest, along with six computers and three external hard drives.

They say he also possessed numerous magazines, photos and VHS tapes containing child pornography.

Held was a teacher at Bedford Middle School in Westport before he retired in 2003.
