Police say they have received fresh leads in their investigation of a Tavares High School teacher accused of groping a 15-year-old student in the school's media center.

John Peter Salamon, 54, a teacher in Lake County schools since 1986, had a history of "touchy" and "creepy" behavior, said police Chief Stoney Lubins, using descriptions given to detectives by past and present female students at the school.

Lubins said police would investigate all complaints -- old and new. In a probable-cause affidavit that outlined the basis for Salamon's arrest Monday on a charge of lewd and lascivious conduct, Tavares police detective Karl Grogan detailed a series of similar allegations, none of which had previously been reported to police.

Three of the girls were athletes, at least two of whom had played for Salamon, an athletic director at the high school where he previously coached girls' soccer and softball.

Another girl told the Orlando Sentinel that Salamon had tried to kiss her on the mouth on the final day of school last year. "If I hadn't turned my head, he would have," she said. Instead, he kissed her cheek, the student said.

Noygel Antonio Massop, 41, a former English teacher and boys basketball coach at J.P. Taravella High School in Coral Springs, Florida has been arrested and jailed without bail on five charges of sexual battery for allegedly having sex with a 16-year-old female student from about Oct. 1, 2007, to Nov. 4, 2008. Police arrested Noygel on Dec. 19, a day after he allegedly implicated himself in a recorded telephone conversation police set up with the teen .

Reportedly school officials suspected a sexual relationship between a Massop and the student and questioned both in December, 2007 or January, 2008 and both denied there was a relationship. According to police the relationship began when the girl was a sophomore. Reportedly Massop left J.P. Taravella High School prior to his arrest and returned to working at at Coconut Creek High School, where he taught previously. Massop was working at Coconut Creek High School as a full-time substitute at the time of his arrest. Reportedly in the arrest affidavit it is alleged that Massop and the girl had sex in his locked classroom, in the boys locker room, in a grassy area outside a school building, in his vehicles and at his home.

A high school teacher is under arrest on a charge of sexual activity with a student. Timothy Robert Brightbill, 42, of Spring Hill was arrested New Year's Eve when the victim's mom returned home early and found them in her daughter's bedroom clad only in their underwear and engaged in sexual activity, the sheriff's office said. Brightbill is a band teacher at the Nature Coast High School and the girl is a student there, according to the arrest affidavit.

He was charged with two felony counts and taken to the Hernando County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bond pending a court appearance Jan. 27th. A probable cause affidavit said the victim, a 17 year old girl, said she had oral sex with Brightbill and was digitally penetrated at his home on Copeland Way during the month of November. His arrest came four hours after the victim's mother returned home to find Brightbill on top of her daughter, in her bed, wearing only his underwear. Under questioning, he admitted to having sexual activity with the girl, deputies said.

A former teacher is starting a two-year prison term for a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student.

Janelle Bird, 28, a former East Hill Christian School and Escambia High School teacher, was convicted in July 2006 of unlawful sexual activity and committing lascivious acts with the teen.

Bird remained free on bond after Circuit Judge Nick Geeker sentenced her in October 2006. The First District Court of Appeal upheld the conviction and sentence in October.

Defense attorney Jerry Allred filed a motion to modify Bird's sentence. Geeker denied that motion Monday.

St. Lucie County schoolteacher and coach charged with molesting two female students accepted a plea deal Friday that gets him out of jail but forces him to give up teaching.

Charles Edward Johnson Sr., a Fort Pierce Westwood High School math teacher and baseball coach who had been charged with two felony counts of lewd or lascivious molestation and a single count of misdemeanor battery, pleaded no contest to three counts of misdemeanor battery.

Immediately after accepting the plea, Circuit Judge Robert Belanger sentenced Johnson to a year of probation for each of the former molestation charges and, on the third battery count, the 142 days Johnson already has served in jail plus 223 days of probation. The terms are to be consecutive, meaning Johnson will be on probation for two years and 223 days.

Belanger also ordered Johnson to relinquish his teaching certificate by Jan. 1, a stipulation of the plea agreement that was most important to the victims and their families, said Assistant State Attorney Linda C. Craft.

Giving up teaching “is going to be very hard for him,” said Charles Johnson Jr., the defendant’s son and a former all-star Major League Baseball player. “He’s been teaching more than 30 years. This isn’t the way he wanted his teaching career to end.”

A math teacher who recently resigned from First Coast High School has been arrested on a charge of sexual battery on a 16-year-old student.

Odis L. Moreton Jr., 36, who lives in St. Augustine, was taken into custody Dec. 12 in St. Johns County after a warrant was issued for his arrest. He was extradited to the Duval County jail Monday where he remains on $1 million bail.

Moreton, who was in his second year at First Coast High, resigned Oct. 1 after the school first learned of allegations he had exposed himself to a student and then grabbed her crotch, said school spokeswoman Jill Johnson.

Johnson acknowledged that school officials knew Moreton had been arrested in 2006 on a warrant for a rape charge stemming from an incident in 1997.

But Moreton was never prosecuted on that charge so his arrest did not disqualify him, she said.

"It's unfortunate," she said. "But you're innocent until proven guilty."

The student in the First Coast High case told an officer that the incident occurred Sept. 29 when she was alone in a classroom with Moreton.

Prosecutors wanted former teacher Christina Butler to go to prison for repeatedly having sex with a special education student.

But when Hillsborough Circuit Judge J. Rogers Padgett looked around his courtroom during Butler's sentencing, he saw no outrage. No angry parents. No damaged boy.

It made him wonder if the victim felt like a victim.

"When you do not have a victim, then what are you left with?" Padgett told the St. Petersburg Times on Thursday. "When you don't have retribution, you don't have much of anything."

Butler, 34, faced up to 30 years in prison. Swayed by three hours of testimony about the ex-Middleton High School teacher's long history of mental disorders, the judge sentenced her Wednesday to five years of sex offender probation.

He said from the bench that the victim, then 16 and borderline mentally retarded, according to prosecutors, was probably the more mature and less vulnerable of the two.

Officers arrested a Gainesville man this week based on allegations he engaged in a sex act with a teenager. Jacob Evagelos Terpos, 26, was released from the Alachua County jail Thursday after he was arrested earlier on a charge of committing a sex offense involving a person between the ages of 12 and 15, jail records show. A report filed by investigators reported Terpos was accused of engaging in a sex act with a teenager in 2006. At the time, he had been a teacher's aide at the school the girl attended.

He met the girl and a friend she had spent the night with after talking to them on the phone. Arrangements were made for him to pick them up and take them back to his apartment, the report stated. Once there, he gave the two beer and had sex with one girl, according to officers. The report did not explain the time lag between the alleged offense and Terpos' arrest.

A Sarasota Military Academy teacher tried to seduce a 16-year-old student by sending her text messages, taking her to the mall and offering her alcohol, a school official and deputies say.

On Wednesday, math teacher Steven L. Panitch was fired and arrested on a felony charge of interfering with child custody, essentially accusing the 48-year-old of taking the girl from school without her parent’s permission.

The girl, now 17, complained to another teacher at the school last month, saying she was uncomfortable around Panitch because he repeatedly sent her text messages. As they investigated, sheriff’s detectives learned that one day in March 2007 the girl skipped school with Panitch, spent the afternoon at the Ellenton Outlet Mall and went to his home on Aventura Drive, sheriff’s reports say.

Roberto Caragol, 35, a former assistant swim coach at Pine Crest School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida has been arrested and charged in federal court with possessing child pornography.

Reportedly court records indicated that investigators confronted Caragol in October after receiving information that his e-mail address was used to transmit four pornographic images of young boys.

In October, Caragol denied the allegations and voluntarily turned over his laptop computer to investigators.

According to the federal complaint, a search of Caragol’s laptop computer uncovered approximately 40 illicit images.

It is alleged that in an interview with an FBI special agent last week that Caragol admitted he had sent, received or possessed at least a couple of hundred images of young boys.

It is further alleged that Caragol told the FBI special agent that he was not presently engaging in sex with minors, but had previously had sexual contact with children younger than 18, with those acts dating back to 2001.

George "Georgio" Fagan owned a Lake Mary dance studio. He loved to dance and loved to teach dance but -- police said -- he had sex with some of his students. On Wednesday, Fagan, 40, of Sanford, was sentenced to six and a half years in prison. He was led out of the courtroom in handcuffs while nearly two dozen of his former students and their parents watched. Last month, he pleaded no contest to having sex with two of the underage girls. One was 15, the other 17. Lake Mary Police Lt. David Prince said all told, nine of his dance students reported they'd had sex with Fagan. Most were 18 or 19 at the time, but four were underage.

Prosecutors opted to file charges involving only two of the minors. The sex took place at Fagan's dance studio -- Georgio's American Dance Center -- his Sanford home, a Lake Mary hotel, a warehouse and the home of another dance instructor, Prince said. Fagan, who is married, sometimes had sex with two dance students at the same time, according to his arrest report.

A former Narcoossee Community School teacher in Orlando, Florida-- who had a sexual relationship with a former student - was sentenced today to two years on house arrest followed by eight years probation.

Sarah Joel, 32, of St. Cloud pleaded guilty in September to one count of sexual activity with a child, age 16 or 17. The investigation began in January after a Harmony High School teacher alerted authorities that one of her students might have had sex with his former teacher. The student told Osceola County deputy sheriffs that he and Joel stayed in touch after the school year and the encounters took place at her home.

Under state sentencing guidelines, Joel could have faced a minimum of more than 5 years in prison. Her attorney, Rajan Joshi argued for Osceola Circuit Court Judge Scott Polodna to depart from the recommendation. He pointed out that it was a consensual -- yet isolated -- act. A doctor evaluated Joel and found no chance of her re-offended, said Joshi.

Nine months after Ron Lewis' very high profile arrest, he arrived at the courthouse to a sweet deal, a gift from a victim who just wasn't going to testify.

Lewis, Newsome High's girls soccer coach, was charged with seven sexual encounters with the same 17-year-old player, normally enough for decades behind bars.

But you could say Ronald Lewis' prayers were answered, because without the girl's testimony, prosecutors couldn't put him on trial or in prison. Prosecutors had no choice but to offer Lewis a plea deal, dropping all but one of the seven sex counts. As Lewis entered his guilty plea to illegal sex with a child, his lawyer spoke for him.

"He has caused substantial suffering to his wife and his family," Don Smith began, "and possibly most importantly, Judge, he recognizes the potential for adverse effects to this young lady." Lewis' wife stood by him as he asked to be allowed off house arrest to attend the high school graduation of one his two sons next year. The boy will be 17, the same age as his father's victim was.

The sentence, one year house arrest and nine years sex offender probation, was the best prosecutors said they could do without the victim's help.

"She does not want to be deposed," said prosecutor Rita Peters, "does not want to testify and would like to move on with her life."

Lewis, who says he's going to finish college, is to never teach or coach again. And for the next 10 years, his mug shot and address will appear on the state sex offender website.

A Jacksonville teacher fired after he was charged with sexual battery involving a 16-year-old student can be prosecuted even though the consensual activity occurred off campus after hours, a judge ruled.

Circuit Judge Mark Mahon said William Tinsley, 29, was in a custodial position over the teen because she was still a student at Lighthouse Christian School in Mandarin, where he taught math and physical education until he was let go after the 2007 incident.

Mahon didn't set a trial date.

Tinsley's lawyer, Curtis Fallgatter, had argued that because the girl came to Tinsley's house on a Friday night, he wasn't acting as an authority figure in her life and couldn't be charged with custodial sexual battery, the only possible charge for a consensual sex act involving a 16-year-old. Fallgatter cited a Florida Supreme Court ruling that a teacher was not in a custodial position over a student during summer break.

A former Lake Region High School coach was sentenced Friday to 10 years probation for child abuse.

Fred Standifer Jr. had originally been accused of inappropriately touching two female students and asking one for sex.

But Standifer accepted a plea deal Sept. 22 after one of the victims was reluctant to testify at trial. He pleaded guilty to two counts of child abuse.

Circuit Judge Donald Jacobsen adjudicated Standifer guilty. Standifer was required to give up his teaching certificate and is prohibited from teaching or coaching, said Wayne Durden, a spokesman with the State Attorney’s Office in Bartow.

The charges that Standifer has been convicted of do not qualify him to be designated as a sex offender. However, Standifer must undergo sex offender counseling as part of the plea agreement, Durden said. Standifer, 49, was forced to resign as a coach on Jan. 31, a week after his arrest.

Brian Michael Lane was a preschool teacher. Now he's a sexual predator.

Lane, 30, who worked at Sugar Plum First Class Preschool in Hudson, was arrested in June and accused of fondling a 4-year-old boy and performing a sex act on a 10-year-old boy. On Thursday in court he pleaded guilty to attempted capital sexual battery and two counts of lewd and lascivious molestation. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

The hearing was long, strange and contentious.

It was on, off, on again. There was crying, yelling, pointing. The father of the 4-year-old victim got up in court and said Lane was a monster. Lane's mother got up and said that he wasn't. For all of it, the 4-year-old was in the courtroom, in the front row, kneeling, watching, wide-eyed.

Lane lived in New Port Richey and used to lead the choir at Bayonet Point Christian Church. He had no prior criminal record and passed all the required background checks when he was hired at Sugar Plum. He fondled the 4-year-old during nap time

A former popular drama teacher at Santaluces High School will spend five years in prison for having sex with two students, according to the terms of his plea deal Thursday.

Andrew L. Foster pleaded guilty to two counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor - a second-degree felony. According to the plea agreement, after leaving prison Foster must then spend 10 years on a stringent probation for sex offenders. Foster was adjudicated guilty -meaning he is now a felon - and will be labeled a sex offender.

"I hope it does send a message to teachers - you don't have affairs with students," said Vincent Mintus, a detective with Palm Beach County School District Police who investigated the case.

One of the victims, now 18, testified at the hearing that she would like to continue having contact with Foster and asked Circuit Judge Lucy Chernow Brown to allow that.

"I have not been traumatized," the young woman told the judge. "All my decisions were made on my own."

A Polk City, Florida horseback-riding instructor was arrested Wednesday after sheriff's detectives concluded he had molested two girls, one of whom he had instructed, according to a report from the Polk County Sheriff's Office.

Thomas A. Jimerson, 48, was charged with two counts of lewd molestation of a victim younger than 12, a first-degree felony.

According to the reports, the first molestation case began in 2004, when one of the victims, who was 11 years old at the time, began taking horseback-riding lessons with Jimerson. The second case occurred between April and May , when the victim was 4 years old. Sheriff's Office reports describe what occurred:

In the first case, Jimerson is accused of having touched the girl's breasts about 600 times and her genitals about 20 times over three years while giving her daily lessons at Classic View Horse Farm in Auburndale.

A choctawhatchee High School band director Randy Nelson resigned late Thursday after he was arrested for indecent exposure.

Pensacola Police arrested Nelson in a public park shortly before 4 p.m. Thursday after watching him "unzip his pants, expose himself and commit a lewd act," according to arresting officer Det. Kevin Christman.

Christman is with the department's vice and narcotics unit and said officers had fielded several complaint phone calls about lewd conduct at Scenic Bluffs Park.

"It's a public park that's open for families and children," Christman said, adding Nelson was in plain sight before he was arrested.

Christman wrote in an arrest report that he walked down a dirt trail in a wooded area of the park and came in contact with Nelson, 48, who identified himself as "Steve."

Christman sat on a broken tree about 6-8 feet away from Nelson and spoke with him. Christman wrote he watched Nelson fondle his genital area "with his hand through the outside of his pants."

The report said Nelson then walked about 10 feet behind the detective, unzipped his pants and exposed himself.

Christman saw Nelson "clearly masturbating." When the detective began to approach Nelson, he placed his genitals back in his pants.

A former Golden Gate High School soccer coach charged with having sex with a student in his office, a park and her home pleaded no contest Wednesday to avoid trial — and the threat of a state prison sentence.

As potential jurors waited upstairs, Juan Manuel Cancino, 28, of Golden Gate, who also was the school’s computer technician, pleaded to two counts of having unlawful sexual activity with a minor and was adjudicated guilty by Circuit Judge Elizabeth Krier. She imposed the sentence after the mother described her loss of faith in school employees.

“This has hurt my family so bad,” said the mother, whose name is being withheld to protect the teen’s identity. “... I cannot allow anybody to teach my daughter because I don’t know what their intentions are. .... She was a victim of abuse inside the school and also inside my house.”

A former Summit Christian School teacher accused of having sex with two teens at two schools tried to resolve things this morning, pleading out in one case, while prosecutors dropped another because the victim was not cooperative.

Without comment, Chad Stoffel, 32, pleaded guilty "in his best interest" to the felony lewd and lascivious molestation in exchange for a term of five years probation, including the first two years on sex-offender probation. According to the terms of plea, he would become a convicted felon.

Stoffel vacated his plea moments later, though, after a glitch in the terms of the deal could not be ironed out with probation officers, said his defense attorney, Jeffrey Welt.

Stoffel was rescheduled for another plea conference on Nov. 24.A best-interest guilty plea is a legally distinct plea in which a person doesn't acknowledge guilt but acknowledges he or she could be convicted by the evidence.

A retired Miami-Dade public school math teacher, who worked part-time at Coral Gables Senior High, is accused of soliciting three undercover cops who he thought were teen girls for sex. 

Broward Sheriff's Office's Keyla Concepcion says David Shelby had graphic conversations with them, asked them for inappropriate photos, and used a webcam while fondling himself.

He is charged with computer child exploitation and lewd and lascivious exhibition. He's out of jail after posting $51,000 bond. Detectives have no indication that he had inappropriate physical contact with underage victims. However, they do realize he's been in the school system for 35 years and had ample opportunities to approach teens.

A former Warner Christian Academy teacher was charged today by two police departments with unlawful sexual activity with a minor, accused of having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student who attended the South Daytona school.

Cynthia Horvath, 45, was arrested by Port Orange Police. She was booked at the Volusia County Branch Jail with bail set at $10,000. Daytona Beach Police also filed charges against her and bail was set at $10,000 on those charges.

Horvath resigned after being confronted by school officials, who then contacted South Daytona Police, said Lt. Ron Wright of that agency. A brief investigation indicated the sexual activity took place in hotels in Port Orange and Daytona Beach and there was no illegal activity in South Daytona, Wright said.

An undercover operation targeting people looking for sex through the Craigslist.com Web site has resulted in the arrest of 13 people, including two people from Winter Haven and a middle school teacher.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office reported that the reverse prostitution sting was based at a house in Winter Haven and took place Thursday through Saturday.

Among those arrested was 50-year-old Richard Paul Kemper of Lithia. According to the report, Kemper told detectives he is a Hillsborough County middle school teacher.

Kemper is charged with soliciting another to commit lewdness, prostitution and battery. According to the report, Kemper was arrested Friday night after offering an undercover detective $150 in exchange for sex.

A Eustis High School teacher is accused of having sex and smoking marijuana with two of her students. Laura Pace, 38, faces five counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The alleged illegal activities took place during the 2007-08 school year when the students were 16 years old.

Pace taught English at the school but has been reassigned pending an investigation by the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

With a voice so soft a judge had to ask him to speak up, Gil Cancel-Comas asked the court Wednesday for leniency in his punishment after a jury decided he'd inappropriately touched a 13-year-old Texas girl.

Cancel-Comas, 31, a former Chiles High School teacher, was sentenced by Circuit Judge Angela Dempsey to 10 years in prison and five years of sex-offender probation for three felonies and a misdemeanor.

"The verdict is something we have to accept at this moment," Cancel-Comas said, before letting out a long sigh. "I would just ask the court to give the fair sentence that they see fit."

Believing that his son is innocent, Gil Cancel Sr. told the court this is an example of the saying, "no good deed goes unpunished."

"My son Gil has always been kind and caring, very involved in the community," he said. "I believe him wholeheartedly. If I believed that he had touched this young lady, I would personally escort him to the Department of Corrections and shut the door behind him."

In February 2007, Cancel-Comas picked up the teen from her Big Springs, Texas, home after chatting with her on the Internet for about a year. They stopped at a hotel in Pensacola on their way to Tallahassee.

A former St. Petersburg High School cross country coach has been arrested on a charge of having a sexual relationship with one of his female athletes. Lee Edwards Fictum, 32, would skip work and have sex with the then-16-year-old girl before cross country practice, investigators said.

The sexual relationship lasted about 10 days in August 2007, when the girl's father confronted Fictum. The father took Fictum to police and told him to "man up" and admit the relationship, St. Petersburg detectives said. He has not admitted it, police said Tuesday. Fictum was arrested Monday, more than a year after the allegations first surfaced, on a charge of unlawful sexual activity, a second-degree felony. He posted $100,000 bail and was released Tuesday afternoon.

An insurance agent, Fictum resigned his part-time coaching job as soon as the allegations surfaced, said Fictum's attorney, Jay Hebert. "I think he was extremely well liked by the students, but to avoid the appearance of impropriety he took the high road and left," Hebert said.

Investigators said Fictum and the girl began a romantic relationship in the spring of 2007. They continued talking during the summer, even when the girl was traveling in Europe. Police said the relationship then turned sexual. Phone records obtained by investigators detail frequent calls, police say. The girl's father discovered the relationship when he reviewed exchanges between the two on a Web site for the St. Petersburg High track and cross country teams.

The trial of a former Jackson Middle School teacher accused of having a sexual relationship with a student has been postponed until the fall. Jury selection in the case of Janet Hughes, 33, was scheduled to begin on Monday, but attorneys asked to delay the trial until Sept. 29, Local 6 News partner Florida Today reported. It is the second delay since undercover police officers who were meeting at a church to discuss an unrelated case last April said they caught Hughes and the 16-year-old boy in a van parked outside the building.

Alaimo is charged with four counts of unlawful sexual acts with a minor.

It is alleged that Alaimo and the girl met at Alaimo’s home on different occasions between April and September and engaged in sexual contact. It is further alleged that the girl kept a journal listing dates when she had sexual contact with Alaimo.

Alaimo came to the attention of authorities after a parent learned about the alleged relationship and contacted authorities.

It is alleged by police that Alaimo told investigators that he had sexual contact with the girl about 10 to 12 times since June and always in his apartment.

Reportedly Alaimo has been placed on administrative leave with pay by the school system.

A former middle school teacher accused of having sex with a 14-year-old student in her SUV pleaded no contest to a reduced charge today and was sentenced to five years probation.

Jennifer Tarkenton, who has since gotten married and goes by Jennifer Nero, was arrested Nov. 30, shortly after she and the student were discovered in her Ford Focus on a deserted stretch of road near Lake Mary.

A neighbor had called authorities, saying a suspicious vehicle was parked on the road. When a Seminole County deputy arrived, the vehicle was rocking and the windows were fogged up, according to court records.

The boy told deputies that he and his teacher had just had sex. He was still wearing a condom, according to court records.

A theater teacher is accused of taking advantage of his young female students who would do anything for a part in a play. The Seminole County instructor has been arrested for allegedly coercing young girls into acting out his strange fantasies. Detectives said Ismael Rios molested three young girls on three different occasions and he was already out of jail and on the streets of Seminole County the day after his arrest. Rios was a teacher with the Wekiva Rivers Players, which rented space at a popular dance studio called The Turning Pointe Dance Group on Wekiva Springs Road.

The dance company isn't associated with any of the accusations. It just rented the space to a local theater group, the Wekiva River Players. It was one of the Players instructors who allegedly used the private rooms and even the parking lot to abuse young girls. "How do you know him?" Eyewitness News reporter George Spencer asked the person who answered Ismael Rios' front door on Tuesday.

"No comment," the unidentified person said. The person at Rios' home didn't want to talk about the disturbing charges against the 27-year-old theater instructor. But neighbors who live near the Sanford home where Rios was arrested Monday night couldn't contain their concern. "It's disgusting. I mean, I don't know what else to say. Anybody's got to be disgusted by something like that," said neighbor Doris Cintron. The sheriff's office said Rios molested three teenage girls he taught as part of the Wekiva River Players after asking them how badly they wanted a lead role. The girls claim he'd take them into private rooms at the space the group rented from a local dance company and force them to use their feet to fondle him. Board members of the theater troupe said Rios was a two-year employee and had no problems. "Absolutely zero. You could've knocked me over with a feather when the first rumors started going around," said Wekiva River Players' Dave Andrews. But the group admits there were no background checks.

A Memorial Middle School teacher's assistant has been arrested on charges of soliciting sex and child pornography from a 17-year-old girl, Tampa police said.

John Robert Ring, 37, of 2609 W. Ohio Ave., was taken to Hillsborough County Jail, police said.

The girl contacted police in March after Ring sent her a text message soliciting sex and asking to take pornographic pictures of her, according to police. He arranged to meet her at 9 p.m. Thursday outside a church on MacDill Avenue not far from his home, and when he showed up he was arrested, police said.

Undercover detectives were on the street, watching Ring leave his house and go to the church, Tampa police Sgt. Paul Mumford said.

The suspect met the victim through her mother, and the girl never attended Memorial, police said. Ring started making sexual comments to the girl when she was 14, Mumford said. As the teen got older, "those comments became more aggressive and she became frightened," Mumford said. Ring did not work in the classroom, but provided support to teachers, according to police. Detectives are investigating to see if there are more victims, Mumford said.

An elementary-school teacher was arrested today after sheriff's office investigators say she had a two-year illegal sexual relationship with a teen.

Alyson Perry-Jarvis, 36, a third-grade teacher at Southern Oak Elementary School in Largo, became acquainted with the boy through neighborhood and family connections in 2006, when he was 15. She engaged the victim in sexual activity in July 2006, when he was 16, deputies say. It continued until August 2008, investigators said.

The teen, now 18, reported Perry-Jarvis on Sept. 19, telling detectives that he realized it was wrong, said sheriff's spokeswoman Cecilia Barreda.

Perry-Jarvis, of 504 Sheridan Drive in Palm Harbor, was arrested today on one charge of unlawful sexual activity with a minor at the Sheriff's Administration Building in Largo for one-count unlawful sexual activity with a minor.

Judge Meryl Allawas set the bond for a former Brevard County teacher, accused of having sex with minors, at $130,000 this morning at the Brevard County courthouse in Viera.

Allawas broke the bond down at $5,000 for each of the first 25 counts, and $2,500 each for counts 26 and 27 against Adrienne Laflamme.

Laflamme was arrested June 25 on charges that she began having sex with a 17-year-old male student soon after his May release from the Juvenile Detention Center in Sharpes. She taught science at the center for about eight years.

Laflamme, 60, remains at the Brevard County Detention Center in Sharpes.

Originally jailed on 15 counts of unlawful sex with a minor, prosecutors added five additional counts of unlawful sex with the teen and charged Laflamme with lewd and lascivious conduct, exhibition, battery and molestation of a 14-year-old with whom she allegedly engaged in a threesome with the older boy.

AA former Lake Region High School track coach pleaded guilty Monday to charges he inappropriately touched two girls at the school. In exchange for his plea, prosecutors dropped more serious charges and will recommend 10 years’ probation at the Nov. 7 sentencing.

Fred Standifer Jr., 49, was forced to resign as a coach on Jan 31, a week after his arrest on allegations of attempted sexual battery, false imprisonment and battery.

Prosecutors reduced the charges to two counts of child abuse and one count of false imprisonment, said Wayne Durden, assistant state attorney. He said one of the victims was reluctant to testify at trial, which prompted the plea agreement.

Polk sheriff’s deputies arrested Standifer on Jan. 23 after two girls on Standifer’s junior varsity basketball team told the school resource officer that he’d acted inappropriately with them.

A December 1st trial date has been set for Lisa Marinelli on a charge of unlawful sex with a minor.

The judge granted a motion from the prosecution to compel Marinelli to provide a DNA sample.

Marinelli was taken to a back room by a detective and other witnesses looking on to do a swab of cells from her inside cheek.

The DNA will be compared to that found on a pair of undergarments which the boy allegedly got from Marinelli.

An Okeechobee High School teacher is in the county jail tonight accused of molesting a 16-year-old student at a popular off-road riding festival, according to the Okeechobee County Sheriff's Office.

Jose Maldonado, 44, was charged with sexual battery, false imprisonment, two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and two counts of exposing himself to the teen, according to a sheriff's office report.

The student, a member of the Junior Recruit Officer Training Corp. program, complained to authorities today that Maldonado molested her while they were at the Mudfest festival in Okeechobee County on Aug. 10. Maldonado, a 25-year military veteran, is a sergeant for the junior recruit training program.

The teen asked Maldonado for a ride to the festival and then afterwards Maldonado took her to his office and cornered her in a storage closet, according to the report. That's when he exposed himself, started to masturbate, and then asked her for sex. When she tried to leave he grabbed her, according to the report.

A coach from Gulliver Preparatory School in Pinecrest has been arrested and accused of having sex with an underage teen. Ronald Butler II, the school’s assistant football coach, was arrested Wednesday and charged with two counts of unlawful sexual activity with a 17-year-old girl.

Police said Butler befriended the victim about one year ago, and during their relationship he engaged in sexual activity with her on multiple occasions. He had been coaching at the school since 200.

If the name Vincent Askew sounds familiar, he played in the NBA from 1994-98.

He played for Seattle, Denver, Indiana, New Jersey, and Portland. He is now sitting in the county jail charged with three counts of sexual battery on a 16-year-old. The consensual sex allegedly took place in May at a Ramada hotel down the street from Dadeland Mall.

He allegedly told the victim that he was recruiting for Gulliver Prep girls' basketball team. She did not attend the school.

CBS4's David Sutta spoke with Gulliver staff, and they told him he supervised the pool at the middle school for a month. They were considering hiring him as a coach. He had even passed a criminal background check.

Detectives contacted the school three days ago when they couldn't find Askew. It turns out he was staying in a hotel in Doral. The school staged a meeting and when he showed up the cops arrested him.

A volunteer assistant band coach for Palm Harbor University High School was arrested Monday on charges he inappropriately touched one band member and had sex with another on several occasions, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

Ryan C. Wilborn, 22, of 2554 Splitwood Way, Clearwater, was charged with one count each of lewd and lascivious molestation and lewd and lascivious battery. He was released early today from Pinellas County Jail after posting $40,000 bail.

The victims are 16-year-old girls who were 15 at the time of the offenses, the sheriff's office said.

The former teacher, dormitory supervisor and tennis coach at Admiral Farragut Academy in St. Petersburg had a secret habit: viewing and trading child pornography on the Internet.

Bloch, 41, was sentenced this morning to six years in federal prison, about 10 years less than provided in federal sentencing guidelines, after two defense experts testified he is unlikely to break the law again.

A former student, Brian Vogel, 24, told U.S. District Judge Susan Bucklew he knew Bloch for seven years. He lived next to him in a dormitory for three to four years and went to the mall with him on weekends.

"I never would have imagined anything like this," said Vogel, who said he just graduated from college with a degree in criminology. Bloch, he said, "taught me values I still carry with me. … He has just always been an incredible person."

Bonnie Saxman said Bloch taught both her children and was a family friend. They traveled together to the U.S. Open, she said. "I've never seen anything improper at all, never heard anyone else even suggest there was a problem whatsoever."

But, as Bloch tells it, for eight or nine years, he was viewing child pornography on his computer. It was, he said, "my drug," the place he could escape his problems.

North Port High School ROTC teacher Ronald Barche, 47, was arrested this morning for allegedly trying to seduce a 16-year-old girl via cell phone text messages.

According to North Port Police records, the girl said she and Barche had routinely exchanged text messages for an unspecified period and that on July 30, the messages turned sexual.

The girl reportedly sent naked photographs of herself to Barche using her cell phone and Barche propositioned her for sex in text messages.

Text messages between former Hillsborough County teacher Stephanie Ragusa and one of the students she is accused of having sex with were released today by the State Attorney's Office.

She told the boy she loved him, and they discussed dating and her giving him money, according to the messages, which were released in hundreds of pages of discovery documents. Also released was Ragusa's last will and testament, in which she addressed a student.

"Please finish school," she wrote in the will. "I cannot believe how lucky I was to have met you. Deep down, you are so warm + caring. Meet your potential, find love, happiness + a family of your own. U deserve no less." She also wrote that she wants to be cremated and have a teaspoon of her ashes thrown into the Gulf of Mexico and on the Forum in Rome.

In the text messages, she told a student about 12:30 p.m. March 2 that she needs to touch and kiss him.

Investigators have arrested a Clearwater middle school teacher on charges that he had child pornography on his home computer.

Aaron J. Stewart, who teaches at Clearwater Intermediate Middle School, was arrested today by agents with the state Attorney General's CyberCrime Unit in Tampa.

Investigators tracked Stewart, 28, during an undercover Internet investigation that traced images of child pornography back to Stewart's computer, according to a news release from Attorney General Bill McCollum.

A former Tallahassee high school teacher will soon be headed to prison. The former Rickards High history teacher was arrested last spring and accused of having a sexual relationship with a 16 year old student.

"The plea of no contest is basically I don't deny and I don't agree to it, but my best interest is to take this plea deal and Mr. Tamayo wanted to move forward from this, that's why he accepted these terms," said attorney Tim Jansen.

According to the plea deal, Tamayo will spend four years in prison and another six years on sex offender probation.

The Palm Beach County Spanish teacher who admitted having a sexual relationship with one of her students, plans to find another job teaching.

Natalie Fraxedas, 23, admitted to school district police that she had an affair with one of her students from Santaluces High. Because the student was 18 and there was not a six-year age difference, police said they had no grounds to arrest her.

Santaluces High Principal Kathy Orloff did not renew Fraxedas' contract in March after police began investigating her, but Fraxedas is apparently looking to teach in another school district.

A Miami-Dade substitute teacher has been arrested after being accused of fondling two 10-year-old girls at Dante B. Fascell Elementary School, police said.

Guillermo Triana-Prieto, 44, was released from a Miami-Dade jail Friday after posting bond.

School police charged him with two counts of lewd and lascivious assault on a minor.

According to police, Triana-Prieto was helping the two fourth graders on May 23 with their math work at the school, 15625 SW 80th St. While the textbooks were propped on their laps, he began touching them inappropriately over their clothes, police said.

The same day, the girls reported the allegations to another teacher during an end-of-the-year awards ceremony. Triana-Prieto of Miami has been a substitute teacher since 2004, records show. He has no prior criminal record in Florida.

This is getting very interesting. He forced himself onto her and didn't leave until she kicked him and they rolled onto the floor, the suit alleges. It also claims Johnson tried to push the woman down an airport escalator at the end of their trip.

The woman told school administration, including Principal Antoine Russell, but received no response, the filing says. By then, Johnson's criminal record included convictions on charges of domestic violence and fondling a child. By the time he was fired from Everglades Prep in October, it included cruelty toward a child, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and smuggling drugs into a county jail.

Alice Meyer, who worked with teenage inmates at the Duval County Jail is accussed of teaching a bit more than language. It seems she was teaching the language of love to one of the teens in jail.

A police report states that beginning in January, "it was alleged that the subject (Meyer) engaged in sexual intercourse with the potential victim on several occasions." The report also claims that "while the class would watch a movie, the subject and potential victim would sit next to one another underneath a blanket."

Police were tipped off by a juvenile witness who said Meyer had been accepting collect phone calls to her house from students and after listening to jail recordings from the conversations taking place it appeared that Meyer and potential victim were carrying on an inappropriate relationship.

Christine Jouini, 38, who is employed at The Center Academy but lived in Margate during the alleged incident , has been charged with three counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor, authorities said.Margate detectives began investigating after the boy recently confided to another teacher that he had previously had a sexual relationship with Jouini, Kolenda said.

The student said he had sex with Jouini on multiple occasions, off campus and at her residence, Kolenda said.

Sixth-grade middle school teacher from Auburndale is facing charges after the Polk County sheriff said she had sex with four teenage boys.

Danielle Jones, 32, had been the teacher of two of the boys at Stambaugh Middle School during the 2005-06 school year, Sheriff Grady Judd said during a news conference early this afternoon. Jones contacted the two boys during the summer of 2007 through their MySpace accounts, Judd said. Jones was 31 at the time, and the two boys were 14 and 15, Judd said.

Jones told the former students she missed them and arranged to pick them up and bring them to her house, where she had sex with both of them, investigators said.

Jones had sex with one of the students again on another date and later had sex with both of the boys at her house, Judd said. On the third occasion, the boys stayed all night, investigators said.

Jones is accused of having sex with one of the boys and his cousin, who was 16, at her home on a fourth occasion and of having sex with the second former student and his cousin, also 16, on a fifth occasion.

Police on Tuesday arrested a teacher at Indian River Correctional Institution, which houses teen male offenders, after a 14-year-old boy accused him of touching him inappropriately and watching pornography in front of him, according to an arrest affidavit.

Matthew Devin Mcgaffigan, 26, of the 100 block of Virginia Park Boulevard, faces three felony charges in connection with the events that happened at his apartment.

Hired in April 2007, Mcgaffigan is an academic teacher at Indian River Correctional Institution in Vero Beach, said Jo Ellyn Rackleff, spokeswoman for the state Department of Corrections. She said he passed a background test before being hired.

The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office found a body with a gunshot wound to the head. WINK News now has confirmation that the body found is Dale Bowe. He was the former band director accused of sexually abusing young boys.

Monday night the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office and Crime Scene Investigators were at a home at Temple Avenue in Port Charlotte. According to the Charlotte County Property Appraiser Dale Bowe owned the home.

A Junior ROTC instructor at Sarasota High School has been accused of having sex with one of his students.

Detectives with the Sarasota Police Department arrested 45 year-old Demetrius Busby at the Sleep Inn on University Parkway. Investigators say the victim, a 15 year old student, told police he was having an ongoing sexual relationship with Busby.

The victim told police he had sex with his teacher at least 10 times during the 06-07 school year in Busby's office, when he was a freshman, and Busby was his ROTC teacher.  Busby also showed him pornographic movies on a laptop, the victim alleged.

Busby and the victim also had sex at the teacher's home at 2330 Tamisola Street at least twice a month for the last year, the victim told police.

Busby was tipped to the investigation by the victim when the two saw each other in the school office, according to his arrest report.

When he found out Busby left his lunch in his office and immediately left school grounds without telling anyone where he was going, police said. He also did not teach his 1 o'clock class.

Residents in Fort Walton Beach are shocked and angry after a high school coach is accused of sexually abusing a male student.

Ray Totten is charged with 50 counts of lewd and lascivious molestation of a child under 16-years-old. Totten is the tennis and golf coach at Fort Walton Beach high school.

Investigators say the abuse happened in Totten’s school office, the school library and in Totten’s car in the school parking lot. Tuesday, investigators took Totten to the police department for an interview, but before that interview started, police say a security monitor caught Totten trying to destroy two computer flash drives.

Officers rushed in and took the devices. Police say they found dozens of images of the victim’s private area on those flash drives.

Deputies arrested 38-year-old Todd Proa in Charlotte County. Investigators say the victim attended New Gate School at 11011 Clark Road in Sarasota, where Proa was a teacher.

A middle-school social-studies teacher has been sentenced to 30 months in state prison for having child pornography on his home computer. Robert Howard Williams, 63, of Sanford pleaded no contest Thursday to eight counts of possessing child pornography, a felony. Circuit Judge Marlene Alva sentenced him to the 30 months followed by six months of house arrest and 10 years of probation.

A Gibbs High School science teacher was arrested today on charges that he engaged in inappropriate behavior with a student, police said.

The official charge against Darren Snieszko, 25, of St. Petersburg, is interference with custody, a felony. According to an arrest affidavit, Snieszko encouraged a 16-year-old girl attending Gibbs High to go on what he called a field trip to Lowry Park Zoo, but there were no other students or teachers involved with the trip, the affidavit states.

Snieszko paid for the girl's admission with his Pinellas County teacher's discount card, said St. Petersburg police spokesman Bill Proffitt.

The spokesman characterized the outing as a date. He also sent the 16-year-old girl a variety of romantic messages, using MySpace, cell phone text messages, and e-mail messages, Proffitt said

A volunteer Sunday school teacher took photographs of young girls from a church and a youth camp in Polk County and put together an album containing their faces pasted on pornographic pictures of women's bodies, Polk County deputies say.

Deputies saw 90 images in the album containing photos of the faces of young girls between the ages of 5 and 15.

Danny Lynn Parker was charged with 90 counts of sexual performance by child, which related to the pornographic pictures. He also was charged with one count of possession of 1images of child pornography.

The case may be complicated by a 2002 U.S. Supreme Court ruling that struck down a federal law banning computer-generated child pornography that did not involve real children.

A former Seminole High School teacher accused of getting a massage at his house from a 16-year-old female student was arrested Tuesday on a charge of interfering with child custody, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said.

The felony charge is tied to a Feb. 7 incident in which the girl told investigators that Thomas Anderson, 59, suggested she skip school and leave campus with him. Anderson picked her up off campus and took her to his house, where, she said, he took off his shirt and she gave him a massage in the bedroom.

Investigators said Thomas denied the accusation. He told school district officials that he left early that day to see a doctor. He told authorities he saw the girl walking off campus and knew she had personal problems, so he offered to take her to his house to talk.

Deputy Edward Perez, a school resource officer at Pierce Middle School, saw something strange on a teacher's computer.

So he checked it out, and it turned out to be an image investigators say is child pornography.

Perez, who has spent nearly 16 years with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, discovered the pornography on a computer lent to him by teacher Charles Russell Young, Hillsborough deputies say.

While trying out the new operating system on Young's computer, Perez noticed a recently opened file with a title referring to oral sex with a 12-year-old, according to the sheriff's office.

A reading teacher at Greco Middle School is accused of having sex with a 14-year-old boy.

Debra Beasley Lafave, 23, of 6328 Osprey Lake Circle, Riverview, was arrested Monday and charged with committing lewd or lascivious battery on a person under age 16, Temple Terrace Police Chief A.L. Tony Velong said in a release.

According to police records, Lafave performed oral sex on the unnamed boy June 3 at a location withheld by police. Then on June 14, Lafave had sexual intercourse with the boy in a portable classroom at Greco Middle School, police reports said.

School district spokeswoman Linda Cobbe said Lafave was not teaching summer school and does not know why she was on campus the day of the incident. She said Lafave has been placed on administrative duty and will be considered for a suspension without pay at the July 13 school board meeting.
