Lanier County High School's basketball coach is charged with the sexual assault of two students under the age of 16. The superintendent of schools, Keith Humphries, says Rob Williams turned himself into authorities Tuesday afternoon. Humpries says Rob Williams faces two charges.

Williams is on paid administrative leave until the school board decides what to do next. The board will take up the matter at its next meeting on Monday, October 13th. Humpries says this is a personnel matter and it's being taken very seriously. Williams is out on bond.

Carrie O’Connor, 34, of Mount Vernon, Georgia and a Montgomery County High School guidance counselor has been indicted on allegations that she had a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old male student.

Reportedly, Christopher Bowman, a former teacher at the school, reported O’Connor’s alleged behavior to the school’s juvenile probation officer and to the Georgia Professional Standards Commission claiming that the relationship started when O’Connor and the student were returning from a basketball game in Macon. Bowman allegedly quoted the student as indicating that he and O’Connor had sex in O’Connor’s car and in her home.Allegedly the sexual relationship between O’Connor and the boy occurred between January and July of this year.

O’Connor’s mother, school superintendent Dale Clark, has been quoted in the media as stating that her daughter is entitled to continue working at the high school until she is found guilty of the charge. Clark’s statement is contradicted by officials with other school systems that say that a school employee under indictment can be placed on administrative leave with pay until the issue is resolved.

A second former student says she had a sexual relationship with a Cherokee High School teacher.

Cherokee County sheriff's Sgt. Jay Baker says authorities arrested Matthew Gantz, a 41-year-old drama teacher, last week after a former student said she had sex with Gantz in 2007 when she was 17. Gantz was charged with sexual assault of a person in custody and evidence tampering.

Baker says detectives filed additional counts of sexual assault of a person in custody on Tuesday stemming from the second claim of a sexual relationship, in 2005. Cherokee County school system spokesman Mike McGowan says Gantz resigned Monday.

David Lawton, 26, an Albany State University student teacher who was teaching at Southeast Elementary School in Valdosta, Georgia has been arrested and held without bond on allegations he had a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old Valdosta boy.

Lawton is charged with aggravated child molestation and is being held in the Lowndes County Jail without bond.

Lawton came to the attention of authorities in August when the alleged victim came forward telling investigators about a sexual relationship he allegedly had with Lawton between January and June of this year.

Reportedly Lawton and the alleged victim met via a website.

A spokesperson for the school district says that Lawton’s service with the school system has been terminated.

A former teacher at a Powder Springs Christian school has been charged with having sex with a 14-year-old boy, Paulding County authorities said Wednesday.

Holly Michelle Barnes, 24, was charged Tuesday night with two counts of statutory rape and two counts of child msolestation, said Cpl. Brandon Gurley, a spokesman for the county sheriff’s office.

Barnes, whose bond was set at $11,200, is a former teacher at the Grace Baptist Church and Christian School, Gurley said. He declined to say whether the alleged incidents occurred at the church or school and whether the boy was a student or a member of the congregation. “There is an underlying connection, but we are not releasing the details at this time,” he said. Church and school officials could not be reached immediately for comment.

Cobb middle school teacher resigned Friday following his arrest for stalking a former student.

Joseph Placanica, an eighth-grade science teacher at Durham Middle School, was arrested Thursday at the Crimes Against Children Unit, said Sgt. Dana Pierce, a Cobb police spokesman. Placanica, 40, allegedly began an affair with his former student, who is now 17 years old, in May of 2007, Pierce said.

She broke off the relationship with him in April. Placanica claimed the two had a sexual affair, according to his arrest warrant. Pierce said there is no evidence the relationship was sexual. But Placanica took the girl to Tennessee at least once, Pierce said.

After she broke off the relationship with him, Placanica continued to try to contact her at work, through text messages and on her MySpace page, he said. According to Placanica’s arrest warrant, he was seen outside Gold’s Gym on Cobb Parkway in Kennesaw on April 30.

The warrants says: “It had been made clear to him that she did not want to be with him anymore; Mr. Placanica also sent numerous E-Mails and text messages that were unwanted after their relationship was over.

ASouth Carolina's State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has arrested and charged a Paul Knox Middle School teacher over a relationship with a student. Shannon Fowler, 37, of 423 Pine Butte Lane in North Augusta, has been charged with five counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, one count of enticing an enrolled child from attendance in school, and one count of violating state test security regulations.

Fowler is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a 14 year old student since last fall. She's also accused of encouraging the girl to create a false persona or imaginary student to hide the relationship. The school web site lists Fowler as a eighth grade math teacher at Paul Knox.

Authorities have arrested a Cass High School teacher and coach on a sexual assault charge.

Twenty-five-year-old Matthew James Stewart of Adairsville was arrested Thursday by Bartow County chief school resource officer Dan Knowles. Bartow County Schools Superintendent John Harper says Stewart has been placed on leave.

Harper would not give details of the alleged assault. Stewart taught math and coached track and field and boys' and girls' cross country teams at the high school. Harper says Stewart remains under contract since he is only accused of a crime at this point.

North Georgia school teacher is accused of molesting students from her school.

Deputies arrested Tonya Craft on four counts of molestation and one count of aggravated sexual battery.

Craft was employed as a kindergarten teacher at Chickamauga Elementary but authorities would not confirm that the alleged victims were students in her class. The alleged incidents happened at Craft's home on Sycamore Drive in Catoosa County. All of the alleged victims are female, ranging in age from seven to eight years old.

Chickamauga city school officials say it's too early in the investigation to comment on her job status, but they are shocked by the allegations.

A former Paulding County high school teacher was freed on bond Wednesday after being charged with sexually assaulting a 17-year-old female student, police said.

Darrel Johnson, 37-year-old social studies teacher at Hiram High School, was arrested Tuesday and posted $2,850 in bond Wednesday afternoon, said Cpl. Brandon Gurley, a sheriff's department spokesman.

Sheriff's Sgt. Brent Miller described the alleged assault as "inappropriate sexual contact." Gurley said "some of the actions" may have occurred on school grounds. Johnson of Dallas had taught at the school since 2003 and resigned before his arrest, schools spokeswoman Sharon Roper said.

Investigators say they have since uncovered allegations that Anthony Shelton made sexual advances to as many as six female students. Two girls actually had sexual with him in his school office.

Shelton was charged with two counts of child molestation and three counts of sexual assault against persons in custody.

Mr. Shelton is believed to have had sex with the two female students no less than nine times from September to December, according to a release. Another student told investigators she came to his office to take a nap and awoke to find him fondling her breasts.

A Walton County teacher has been arrested for alleged inappropriate contact with a middle school student. Noelle Pannell, 31, is charged with sexual exploitation and child molestation of a male student at Carver Middle School in Monroe. Pannell is a teacher at Carver Middle. She bonded out of the Walton County Jail Wednesday morning after being arrested Tuesday.

“It’s difficult to understand for anybody,” said Capt. Chris Cannon with the Walton County Sheriff’s Office. Walton County investigators said the parents of a seventh-grade boy discovered something was going on between their son and Pannell on the Internet. “Most of the communication was via MySpace.

However, there was some face-to-face physical contact,” said Cannon. “School is supposed to be a safe zone,” said parent Amanda Parker. “It’s a child. A child can’t make a grown-up decision, you know what I mean? He just can’t.” Cannon said there was no sex between the boy and Pannell.

Police have uncovered another case of a teacher accused of child molestation. The accuser this time is a 15-year-old student.

The teacher was working as a substitute at Villa Rica High School.

Police said the teacher did not have any physical contact with the girl. They said he confessed to exchanging sexually-explicit photos and text messages with her.

The teacher, Bryan Joshua Driver, 21, is the second teacher from Villa Rica High School arrested in the past two months on child-sex-crime charges.

In February, 28-year-old Loren Henley, an algebra teacher and wrestling coach, was arrested and charged with sexual exploitation of a minor. Police said Henley was in possession of child pornography.

A Rising Starr Middle School social studies teacher faces charges of child molestation, incest and sexual battery after being arrested by Coweta County investigators, police said.

According to reports, Craig Steven Bowen, 57, of Plynat Street in Senoia, was arrested Saturday at his home.

The report, written by Investigator Casey Mullis of the Coweta County Sheriff’s Department, states that Bowen is alleged to have been having “sexual contact with a female relative who is under the age of 16 between the years of 2000 and 2003.”

According to the report, Bowen was initially arrested for aggravated sexual battery. “In the course of the investigation, Mullis discovered that child molestation and incest had occurred as well as the intitial charge of aggravated sexual battery,” the report states.

A former teacher has been charged with operating an Internet ring where members traded child pornography.

A Clarke County grand jury handed down the indictment Wednesday against 57-year-old Ronald Malcus James. James was charged on 26 counts of exploiting children after a GBI investigation last year revealed the former Walton County teacher's computer held thousands of video and still images of children.

James was a literature teacher at Walton County Alternative School in Monroe when he was arrested at his Athens home in February 2007.

James is out of jail on $40,000 bond but is not allowed to have a computer or contact with children, including his own child.

The investigation into Ware County's veteran English teacher, James Kurtz, began Friday.

Waycross Police Chief Jim Blackburn says it started with a phone call from Ware County Department of Family and Children's Services.

"We had a call that a Ware County High School student had possibly been assaulted or molested by a teacher there."

Two days later 56-year-old James Kurtz turned himself into police.

The 11 year veteran of Ware County High School is now charged with sexual assault, child molestation, statutory rape and sodomy.

The alleged victim is a 15-year-old girl from the school. Police say it appears the sexual relationship had been going on since August 2003. Kurtz teaches 9th grade English and two senior English classes.

Cobb County police charged a high school music teacher Monday with sexually assaulting a student.

Police arrested Steven Martin Parkman, 32, of Dallas, a Harrison High School teacher, late Monday afternoon. He was charged with sexual assault and jailed. Parkman was released on $35,000 bond Tuesday morning.

Cobb County police spokeswoman Cassie Reece said the department's Crimes Against Children Unit was contacted by school officials about allegations of a sexual assault of a 17-year-old girl, who is a student at Harrison High School.

"That's somebody's daughter. I've got a daughter and that's not good. Not good," said parent Del Brooks.

A former Gwinnett County teacher has gone to jail after having sex with a student and later giving birth to their child. Angela Christine Coffey, 34, of Lilburn, gave birth to a girl fathered by a 17-year-old student who was in her class at Meadowcreek High School in Norcross, authorities said.

Coffey coached cheerleading and taught English as a second language at the school, where she was employed from August 2004 to October 2006.

The former student, now 18, would not cooperate with prosecutors and has visited Coffey in jail since she pleaded guilty July 27 to sexual assault with a person in custody, jail records show.

Coffey is being held at the Gwinnett County jail until state authorities transfer her to prison, said Stacey Bourbonnais, spokeswoman for the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department.

Meanwhile, the couple's 4-month-old daughter is in the care of Coffey's relatives who live out of state, her attorney Ash Joshi said.
