A former teacher, described in court as someone who spent months trying to "brainwash" a student to make her a sexual tool, was sentenced to 15 to 30 years in prison today by a Northampton County judge who said it was the worst case of abuse she has seen.

Forty-one-year-old Steven Sanger also received 30 months of probation at his sentencing Tuesday in Kent County Circuit Court.
The former Byron Center High School science teacher and track coach was accused of using a digital camera to secretly snap images of the girl's underwear in June 2007.
Investigators found no photos. Sanger repeatedly denied the charge.
He was convicted in August of attempting to capture or distribute an image of an unclothed person.

As he was led out of the courtroom by two sheriff's deputies, Douglas Conrad, 35, had to walk past the mother of one of his victims. He lowered his head when he saw her and his glasses nearly fell from his face.

A 54-year-old history teacher at Rio Americano High School in Sacramento is suspected of having four female students dress up in revealing "military garb" for a photo shoot on school property, the second time he has been investigated for similar accusations at an area high school, authorities said.
Gregory Jackson Rayburn was booked into Sacramento County Jail on 15 counts of molesting a child under the age of 18 and two counts of sexual battery, according to jail records. All the charges are misdemeanors. More

The A Fresno Court has drastically reduced the charges against a Fresno teacher accused of 100 counts of possessing child pornography. Terry Zane, who was arrested back in August, now only faces one count.

Hassler, 63, a former teacher at Mayfield Senior School of the Holy Child Jesus in Pasadena, was set for Jan. 26. Hassler, who had pleaded not guilty on Jan. 22, was arrested last November after a police search of his home uncovered numerous illegal images, including videos and pictures of underage children, stored on his computer, officials said. Jury selection in the case of Janet Hughes, 33, was scheduled to begin on Monday, but attorneys asked to delay the trial until Sept. 29, Local 6 News partner Florida Today reported. It is the second delay since undercover police officers who were meeting at a church to discuss an unrelated case last April said they caught Hughes and the 16-year-old boy in a van parked outside the building.

Sand Springs police arrested Charles Lloyd Degarmo at his home on the 3100 S. Summit block in Sand Springs Thursday afternoon. Degarmo was then booked into the Tulsa County Jail.
Police began investigating after a student accused Degarmo on Sept. 30 of going to her home and making "inappropriate contact... and sexual advances," Assistant Police Chief Mike Carter said.
Police are unsure if Degarmo was the girl's bus driver. They do believe he was acquainted with the victim's family, Carter said. Carter said that Degarmo resigned from his job as a school bus driver for Sand Springs when he found out he was under investigation. More

38-year-old Daniel G. Frick of Potsdam was sentenced Thursday in Morristown Village Court to 60 days in the St. Lawrence County Jail and three years probation on a guilty plea to a charge of child endangerment.

The Rankin County Sheriff’s Department is bringing four additional counts of statutory rape against a 37-year-old Brandon woman previously accused of having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old boy.

Jennifer Tarkenton, who has since gotten married and goes by Jennifer Nero, was arrested Nov. 30, shortly after she and the student were discovered in her Ford Focus on a deserted stretch of road near Lake Mary.

David Cameron made the plea in a Jefferson County courtroom Tuesday.
He was arrested four years ago when police broke up a child porn ring in Mt. Vernon.
Authorities say he was seen on tape committing a sex act with a 12 year old.
At the time, Cameron worked at Brehm Prep school in Carbondale. He faces between six and 60 years in prison. Five other men have already been convicted and sentenced for their involvement in the porn ring. More

A former substitute teacher pleaded guilty in federal court Tuesday to child pornography charges. Thirty-seven-year old James Love, who taught in Unit 5 and District 87, will serve 20 years in federal prison for taking explicit photos of boys after he drugged and molested them at his Bloomington home last year.
Federal prosecutors say under the plea agreement, Love will remain on supervised release for life once he completes his prison sentence.
Love was also supposed to face felony sex abuse and battery charges in McLean County, but those charges were dropped under the plea agreement. More
