School District 18 officials testified Tuesday that a former Leo Hayes High School teacher assistant facing a sex-crime allegation involving a student was in a position of responsibility over students.

Jonathan Samuel Staples, 35, of Zealand, Canada was in provincial court Tuesday to stand trial on a charge that he touched a young person sexually between April 1-30, 2007, while he was in a position of trust or authority over that young person.

Leo Hayes principal Kevin Pottle testified the student in question and the boy's mother came to him May 24, 2007, to report some concerns about Staples, who was working as a teacher assistant at the high school at the time.

Based on that conversation, he said, he contacted the city police and Karen Morton, the district's director of human resources.

After a meeting later that afternoon between Staples, himself and Morton, Pottle said, Staples was "reassigned to home."

Morton said she "advised him his services were no longer required."

Pottle said while teachers and teacher assistants (TAs) have different responsibilities, TAs and other school employees as well as volunteers do have responsibilities to students, as outlined in District 18's Policy 701.

A TEACHER'S affair with a schoolgirl was exposed by a trail of messages on social networking websites, a court heard.

Mark Little, 28, of Latchford, Warrington, England tried to wipe his computer's memory before it was seized and examined by investigators, a jury at Chester Crown Court was told.B ut the police were able to recover and reconstruct some of his chats with the girl on the MySpace website, it was alleged.

Little, of Latchford, Warrington, denies 12 counts of sexual activity with a child under the age of 16. The case is expected to last 10 days. The girl's identity or the name of her school cannot be published. "If there was no relationship, why were they messaging each other as they did?" said Simon Medland, prosecuting.

"Why does he write that they will be careful and won't get caught? Why does he write `Luv You'?" The court heard that between May and October 2007, Little, who had a fiancée, took advantage of the girl.

Mr Medland said: "He was able to conduct a wide-ranging and full sexual relationship with the girl." The court heard how the teacher was caught out when a memory stick containing MSN chat messages referring to the relationship between the girl and Mr Little was handed to the authorities.In the messages, the girl allegedly referred directly to sex with Little.

Now Anna Louise Thompson (28) has appeared in court as a result of the affair she started with the girl in Brisbane in 2003. She is charged with seducing a minor and inappropriate conduct, according to the ‘Courier-Mail’ newspaper.

Police representative Todd Fuller told the court: “They kissed and touched, and pleasured each other with their hands and mouths.” The relationship began with seemingly innocent lunch dates but soon became sexually intense. “They started to experiment with sex toys, lollipops, and wore collars.”

The 42-year-old Cornwall junior high school teacher found guilty of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old male student will be sentenced Tuesday by Justice Julie-Ann Parfett.

Sentencing arguments were heard Aug. 29, when Crown prosecutors said Jennifer Dorland should spend at least 15 months behind bars for committing an "extremely severe breach of trust."

But Dorland's lawyer, Vanora Simpson, argued that the former Grade 7 and 8 teacher was a low-risk to reoffend and deserved a 12- to 18-month conditional sentence, the majority of which would be served under house arrest.

A SHAMED schoolteacher who downloaded almost 1,000 indecent images of children has escaped prison. Stephen Royle, 53, a father-of-two who taught IT at Lowton High School in Wigan, was handed an eight-month suspended prison sentence after claiming he visited adult porn websites but that `pop-ups' had led him to view child pornography.

The judge who freed Royle said the case had been a 'disaster' for the defendant. The porn was found on his home computer and a school laptop at his home in Spelding Drive, Standish Lower Ground, Wigan.

Sentencing Royle at Liverpool Crown Court yesterday, Judge Mark Brown told Royle: "It is clear to me that you have an unhealthy and indeed criminal interest in children. The courts always view these offences seriously.

"But for there being a market for these images these children would not be abused in the appalling and disgraceful way that is demonstrated by the images I have seen in this particular case."

He added: "Nothing can justify what you did." But he said the case had been 'a disaster' for Royle and his family and ended his 31-year long teaching career, during which time he was held in great esteem by his colleagues and pupils.

Blaine Harrison, 41, pleaded guilty Thursday to sexual exploitation of the girl with whom he was in a position of trust when he was employed at the school. The relationship became sexual when the girl turned 15 and continued until she was 17.

Court heard he taught the girl outdoor education and coached her in volleyball while having the secret, illicit affair that included sex at her home, at his home and in his car, and at school in the teacher's washroom or the gymnasium equipment room.

A retired Canadian school teacher says he viewed child pornography on his home computer in an effort to help a young student he feared was being sexually exploited.

David Carswell testified yesterday he didn't know how hundreds of child porn pictures ended up downloaded on his computer, even though he had viewed many images on it.

"I was concerned with this student of mine ... and children in general," Carswell, told court.

He said he viewed "seamy, bottom of the belly" images of children in various stages of undress. He initially said none involved children in sexual situations, but later admitted seeing pictures where adults were about to perform sex acts with children.

Carswell's computer was seized from his Midhurst home in March 2005 after Ontario Provincial Police were tipped off by police in the United States who monitored credit card transactions to pay for porn website memberships. He was arrested in July that year and charged with possessing child pornography on his computer. Carswell, then an elementary school teacher, said he embarked on a search for images of one of his students, a boy of 10 or 11, who he described as disturbed and defiant.

Former South Devon U.K. teacher who posed as a lesbian model to seduce a girl into sending him sexual photographs has been told to sign on as a sex offender and faces the possibility of prison.

Exeter Crown Court yesterday heard that Andrew Delafield, 28, a former PE teacher at Paignton Community College, even posed as a young lesbian model to persuade a gay 16-year-old girl to send him pictures of herself naked.

He was caught after he approached a 15-year-old girl – whom he used to teach gymnastics at a private class outside school – on the Internet and tried to get her to send him nude pictures of herself.

Delafield, of Fairview Road, Newton Abbot, pleaded guilty to two counts of attempting to make an indecent image of a child under the age of 18, and 11 charges of making indecent photographs of children relating to 205 indecent images found on his computer. The offences all occurred between November 2007 and March this year.

A Montreal teacher charged in the U.S. for allegedly soliciting sex from a 13-year-old boy is facing more than 200 new counts related to child pornography.

Richard Doucet, an elementary teacher at the elite Selwyn House private school, was arrested in May at a motel in Fredericksburg, Va.

The new accusations stem from images found on a compact disc that was seized by police from a motel room.

Det. John Chapman of Dumfries, Va., police said the 36-year-old has been indicted on 230 counts of possessing and reproducing child pornography. Chapman said each felony carries a five-year mandatory prison sentence, which means Doucet could be sentenced to more than 1,000 years in jail if convicted on all counts.

A teacher of a primary school on the southern city fringes was arrested on Thursday for allegedly molesting a Class IV student.

The arrest followed a complaint from the girl’s parents. Police said Sankar Routh, the teacher-in-charge of Sarvodaya Hindi Vidyalaya, Rabindranagar, had called the girl to his room around 10am.

Within a few seconds, the girl ran out, weeping. She narrated her ordeal to the other teachers and a few parents who were present. The teachers and the parents gheraoed Routh, who denied the charge. The guardians then dragged him out of his room and allegedly beat him up before informing the police.

A section of the guardians told the police that Routh had committed such crimes earlier, too. They repeatedly asked him to mend his ways but the teacher did not pay heed to their pleas.

A Toronto teacher has been rearrested in connection with three sexual assaults that allegedly occurred between 1978 and 1984. Police allege Robert Judge, 58, a teacher at Etobicoke Collegiate Institute, indecently assaulted three males between the ages of 15 and 20. All of the victims went to the teacher’s home on separate occasions and were allegedly sexually assaulted.

Judge has been charged with three counts of indecent assault.

Canadian pedophile Christopher Neil was sentenced to three years and three months in prison in Thailand on Friday for kidnapping and sexually abusing a 13-year-old boy.

The 33-year-old teacher was arrested in northeastern Thailand last October after an extensive campaign by Interpol.

Investigators in several countries had been trying to find Neil for three years after German police discovered the Internet photos showing him allegedly raping 12 boys in Vietnam and Cambodia. His face was disguised with a "swirly" digital pattern, but German computer experts unscrambled it, and posted it on Interpol's website, leading to his identification and arrest.

A female high school teacher in Melbourne has been charged with sexually penetrating a 15-year-old student and urging the boy to treat her as a sex slave.

Nazira Rafei, 25, is charged with one count of sexually penetrating a child under 16 and four counts of an indecent act with a child under 16. She’s also been charged with trying to conceal the relationship with the boy by making unwarranted demands on him.

Ms Rafei’s lawyer, Steve Pica, has announced his client would plead not guilty. "This case is likely to attract a fair degree of media attention," Mr Pica told the court.

A forbidden romance between a sexually inexperienced teacher and an infatuated student must be deterred to prevent others from doing the same, a superior court heard Monday.

"Parents should be able to send their kids off to school without having to concern themselves with the possibility of a romantic relationship developing between their son or daughter and one of his or her teachers," said Crown attorney Paul Larsh.

Jeremy Grimstead, 31, was a teacher at St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Catholic Secondary School when a consensual sexual relationship started in 2006 with a 17-year-old student months before she was expected to graduate.

Grimstead was originally charged with sexual exploitation and pleaded guilty at the start of his trial Monday to the lesser charge of assault.

In a joint submission between the Crown and defence lawyers, Grimstead received a suspended sentence and probation for 12 months. The Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board fired Grimstead in March 2007 after hiring him as a regular teacher six months earlier.

A former Brighton Grammar teacher has pleaded guilty to child pornography charges after downloading thousands of images from the internet including of naked young girls tied up with ropes.

Father-of-three John Newton Hewitt, 49, pleaded guilty in the Melbourne Magistrates Court today to two charges of possessing and transmitting child pornography.

Australian Federal Police found pornographic photographs and videos on Hewitt's laptop, and downloaded to disks stored in a cardboard box, during a search of his home in December last year.

A high school teacher is facing 11 sex-related charges after his arrest by Longueuil police.

Denis Morasse, 51, was to appear in court on charges of sexual assault, sexual touching and inciting sexual contact.

Police allege that between March and November 2007, Morasse invited several youths to his house to take a whirlpool bath with him. Five youths aged around 14 years old allegedly took him up on the offer.

College francais, the high school where Morasse worked, said in a statement that it fired him on March 19 after an investigation by youth protection authorities.

The school said it was the first time it had contacted youth protection authorities on such a matter in its 50 years of existence.
