Ryan Christopher Janssen
12-26-08
A former Norwalk teacher will be on probation for a year and must register as a sex offender because he engaged in a two-year sexual relationship with a 16-year-old female student.
Ryan Christopher Janssen, 31, pleaded guilty this week of lascivious acts with a minor. The plea means he will spend 10 years on the state sex offender registry.
Janssen could have been sentenced to one year in jail.
Janssen was charged Aug. 27 after one of his former students, now 18, told Norwalk police that she had a relationship with Janssen while she attended Norwalk High School.
"I was led to believe I was in love and had found my soul mate, my one and only," the victim said in court. The Des Moines Register does not identify victims of sex crimes without their consent.
"Was I scared? I don't know," she testified. "Was I confused? Absolutely."
Warren County Attorney Bryan Tingle declined to comment in detail about the case. "Based on the whole facts and circumstances and everyone involved, it's our position that the sentencing agreement was, in fact, fair," he said.

Arthur Miller
08-13-08
Arthur Miller, a political science professor, was charged with four counts of bribery after he allegedly asked female students to let him fondle them in return for better grades.
University spokesman Steve Parrott said the university is conducting its own investigation, separate from the criminal case. Meanwhile, Miller is on paid leave and has been barred from having any contact with students until the criminal case is resolved, Parrott said.
Miller was arrested on Friday and released from jail on Saturday.
Police said he allegedly asked to touch the breasts of four female students between May 8 and 13. In return, he would give the students "A's" in his class.
Miller's wife, Natasha Ivanova, said she doesn't believe the allegations.
"The whole situation is very sad for us," Ivanova said. "I believe these accusations are false. We, as a family, are looking forward to the day all of these charges are dropped and his name is cleared."

Robert Dale Rogers
02-11-08
A former longtime Carroll Middle School teacher pleaded guilty this morning to sexually abusing a former student.
Robert Dale "Bob" Rogers, 61, will be sentenced March 21 on one count of third-degree sexual abuse and one count of sexual exploitation by a school employee.
Rogers had agreed to a plea bargain that dropped two other counts of third-degree sexual abuse. Carroll County District Court Judge Joel Swanson accepted the pleas following a half-hour process to ensure that Rogers understood the charges and punishments and to ensure the court had established a factual basis to accept the pleas.
In questioning by Swanson, Rogers said he performed oral sex on a 14- or 15-year-old male student at least 10 times from January 2006 to June 2007. Authorities have said the incidents occurred at residences in Carroll. The locations have not yet been specified in court

A high school teaching assistant, who officials say had sex with a 14-year-old student, is charged with sexual abuse and sexual exploitation by a school employee.
Tyler Radcliffe, 21, of Hampton, is on paid administrative leave from Hampton-Dumont High School, where he was also an assistant softball coach, according to the school's Web site.
Authorities filed charges Jan. 2. Radcliffe made his first court appearance Monday. Superintendent Todd Lettow declined comment on the allegations. Police records indicate Radcliffe had a sexual relationship with the student from June through October. "Thousands of text messages between them ... indicated this relationship was ongoing for several months and shows an ongoing pattern of conduct" that led to sexual relations, according to court records. If convicted, Radcliffe could face up to 15 years in prison.

Kent Merrill Adamson
10-10-07
Kent Merrill Adamson, 45, of Creston was charged Tuesday with transporting obscene materials to a minor and coercion and exploitation of a minor — both felony charges.
Creston Police picked up Adamson on a federal warrant and transported him to Des Moines where he was turned over to U.S. Marshals.
According to the warrant and affidavit, the charges are the result of an investigation in related incidents between Jan. 29 and July 26 in which Adamson used the Internet to engage in sexual activity with a minor.
An agent with Iowa Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force stated a special FBI agent was working undercover and claimed to be a 14 year old female from Portland, Ore. That agent entered an Internet chat room called “Romance, Adult, Fetish 15” from the Yahoo Web site and was approached by an individual, now identified as Adamson, who identified himself as a 35-year-old single dad of three children living in Iowa. Over the course of time Adamson had 23 chat conversations with the supposed 14-year-old.
