A high school teacher in Las Vegas has been arrested on suspicion of engaging in sex with a student.

39-year-old Angel Menes, a driver's education teacher at Durango High, was booked Saturday night into the Clark County Detention Center on one count each of sexual assault and sexual misconduct with a student.

Detectives say the arrest follows an investigation spurred by a parent's report, and they're trying to determine whether any other students may be involved.

They also say the case represents 1 of the first times that a law prohibiting sexual misconduct with a student has been used since its passage by the 2007 Legislature.

A former Storey County high school teacher who was fired for inappropriate contact with a student has been arrested on sexual assault charges, authorities said.

William Beeson, a former English and theater arts teacher at Virginia City High School, was arrested Tuesday afternoon at Piper's Opera House, where he serves as program director, said Sgt. Ken Quirk of the Storey County sheriff's office.

Beeson booked on suspicion of one count each of felony sexual assault of a child under 16 and general sexual assault, as well as misdemeanor conduct with a child.

The arrests were a result of a warrant out of Virginia City Justice Court arising from a previous investigation, Quirk said.

Quirk also said the second count of sexual assault is an alternative count if the first count is not successful.

A former Yerington High School teacher and athletic director charged with having sex with a student received probation with a stipulation of jail time during his judgment and sentencing hearing in the Third Judicial District Court in Yerington on Monday.

Kevin Joseph Kegel, 29, former YHS physical education teacher and athletic director, was charged last year with two counts of sexual conduct by a school employee with a pupil, age 16 or 17, from the same school. Kegel pleaded no contest to one of the two counts in December, with the second being dismissed at that time. His sentence includes 16 months to four years in the Nevada State Prison; however, probation was granted with the special condition that he spend three months in the Lyon County Jail.

Another adult is accused of abusing his trust and inappropriately touching a child. This time police are looking into allegations a special education teacher fondled one of his female students. News 3's Luis Cruz reports from Harney Middle School where the incident reportedly took place.

Dale Scharpf is listed on the school's website as a special education teacher. On Friday he was arrested after a 13-year-old female student told administrators that he touched her breast over her clothes.

We went to Mr. Scharpf's home to try to get his side of the story. A man who fit the description of the teacher answered the door and told News 3 that Scharpf was not there, but not before shutting the door.

A former Clark County school district track coach has been charged with sexual misconduct with a student. Kenneth Craig, 28, was arrested last week after a seven month investigation. Metro police say the Las Vegas high track coach started a sexual relationship with a senior track runner.

The police report says the girl got pregnant and says Craig's girlfriend at the time paid for the abortion. E-mails between Craig and the girl allege that Craig knew he shouldn't be dating a student and told her he could only visit her at night.

Craig worked as a substitute teacher for the Clark County School District from May 2003 to May 2007. He was a track coach at Las Vegas High School from February to May 2006, according to a police arrest report.
