Paul Stanziale
05-28-08
A suspended Sussex Technical School teacher has avoided criminal prosecution on charges he placed his face on the chest of a female student, but will not return to work at the high school, attorneys said Tuesday.
Paul Stanziale, 51, will have a clean record if he completes 50 hours of community service and follows all rules during 12 months in Pre-Trial Intervention, a form of probation that diverts first-time offenders from actual prosecution.
Assistant Prosecutor Francis Koch said Stanziale — who did not enter a plea to the charges — must have no contact with the alleged victim or her family.
Stanziale will submit a letter of resignation to Sussex Tech, but he will not be barred from teaching elsewhere, attorneys said. The defense presented the letter to Judge N. Peter Conforti during the court hearing.

James Darden
04-25-08

A once beloved Teaneck middle school teacher was sentenced Friday to 8½ years in prison and lifelong parole for sexually assaulting a former student.
“You realize what you have done to this child?” Morris County Superior Court Judge Salem Vincent Ahto said to James Darden. “You made her a woman well before her time in a very inappropriate way.”
Darden, 37, said he had no explanation for his deeds and apologized to his victim.
The victim, who is now in her 20s and is studying to be a teacher, said Darden, as someone who abused trust, is a “monster” who should be locked up for a long time.
She also denounced some teachers who were present at the sentencing to support Darden, and that her experience with “these poor examples of role models” is what prompted her to choose a career in teaching.
