Jared Wolfgang, 28, wearing a white shirt and tie, was handcuffed and led to the nearby jail following sentencing by Judge Lynnita "Kay" Wagner in county Juvenile Court. He faces another year in jail, time suspended Monday, if he fails to comply with conditions of three years of probation. Wolfgang was arrested July 15 after a Meijer store employee called 911 to report an adult male "loving on" a young girl. Police said love letters and notes from that girl, a 15-year-old student, were found in Wolfgang's car. He later pleaded guilty to three misdemeanor counts of contributing to the delinquency or unruliness of a minor. Wolfgang has surrendered voluntarily his teaching license, defense lawyer Robert Huffman Jr., said, and has voluntarily attended sex offender counseling although the charges were not sex offenses. Wolfgang termed his actions "inconsiderate and selfish" and said he was "sorry for the pain, hurt and problems" caused to the girl and her family. It is alleged that Pickering committed the crime of sexual battery against a then 11-year-old student during the time period from Christmas Day 2006 through April 8, 2007. Reportedly Pickering has been a teacher for 22 years, 12 of which she has spent in the East Clinton school district. Pickering’s attorney says his client is astonished by the allegations. Reportedly Pickering was indicted by the grand jury on Monday, arrested at the school campus on Tuesday, was arraigned on Wednesday and subsequently released on bond. An Anderson Township man accused of having sex with underage girls, including two on a basketball team he coached, has admitted his guilt. Randall Ralston, 39, pleaded guilty Wednesday to three counts of unlawful sexual conduct and three counts of sexual battery. He faces up to 30 years in prison when he is sentenced next month. Ralston was originally charged with one count sof rape and 13 counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.

A felony importuning indictment against a former Miami East schools teacher and coach accused of contacting a 15-year-old girl regarding sexual activity will be dismissed, a special prosecutor said Friday, Dec. 12.
The felony will be dropped in exchange for a plea to a misdemeanor of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Chad Widener, 37, of rural Casstown pleaded not guilty Aug. 22 to felony importuning. He was accused of taking steps Dec. 6, 2007, to "solicit another to engage in sexual conduct" with him with the victim being older than 13 but younger than 16.
He is free on his own recognizance. Shelby County Prosecutor Ralph Bauer said Friday the felony charge will be dismissed in Miami County Common Pleas Court. The new charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor will be filed in the Miami County Juvenile Court as part of a plea deal in which Widener has agreed to plead to the lesser charge, Bauer said.
A visiting judge will need to be appointed in juvenile court, he said. Bauer, who would not comment on the specifics of the allegations, did not know when the plea hearing would be scheduled.

A former teacher pleaded guilty Wednesday to having sex with a 17-year-old student.
Gerald Johnson, 41, will be sentenced on Jan. 15, 10TV's Patrick Bell reported. He faces up to five years in prison.
Prosecutors said Johnson, who taught the student's history class at Tolles Technical Center, located in Plain City, had sex with the girl on three different occasions.
According to a release issued by the Franklin County Prosecutor's Office, Johnson and the student engaged in sexual activity once at Tolles Technical Center, once in Dublin at the Mall at Tuttle Crossing, and once at a motel in Hilliard.
During court proceedings on Wednesday, Johnson told the court that the sex was consensual, Bell reported.
Johnson resigned from his teaching position in May.

A 26-year-old married teacher and housemother will go to prison for three years for having sex with a 16-year-old boy who impregnated her while she was supposed to be supervising him at a Warren County group home.
But not until after she has the baby.
"The child is certainly innocent and has nothing to do with what is going on here," Judge James Flannery told Carolynn Hatcher when he ordered her to turn herself into the sheriff's office on Feb. 10 for transportation to the state women's prison.
Carolynn Hatcher faced 5 to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty in September to three counts of sexual battery involving the teen who was placed at Mid-Western Children’s home by Butler County Children Services.
In exchange for the plea, Warren County Prosecutor Rachel Hutzel agreed to dismiss three other sexual battery charges.

James H. Clay, a former Troy Christian schools coach called a "master manipulator" by Miami County prosecutors, was sentenced Tuesday, Oct. 14, to the maximum five years in prison for sexual conduct with a 15-year-old student.
Clay, 41, of Piqua, was convicted by a Common Pleas Court jury in late August of felony sexual battery for the relationship between fall 2006 and early 2007 while he was a boys basketball and football coach at the school. The girl testified the relationship began during weekly Bible studies Clay held with her after he was asked by her mother to serve as a mentor.
Defense attorney Thomas Intili said Clay maintains his innocence, and will appeal. Intili declined comment after sentencing.
Clay cried as he asked Judge Jeffrey Welbaum for mercy for him and his family, saying the past year has been filled with pain for his children, who have been harassed, and his loss of five jobs because of the criminal charge and conviction. "I just want peace for my family and peace for (the victim's) family," he said.
He briefly referred to the loss of his house to fire in December, a few days after he pleaded not guilty to the indictment. The house was set on fire and racial slurs were sprayed on the Clay's vehicle. No one has been charged in the fire, which was ruled arson.

A former Mansfield City Schools teacher already serving four years for sexual battery could face up to another 24 years behind bars. Dustin Powers, 36, was indicted on three counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. Indictments were released Monday by the Richland County Prosecutor’s Office.
Also indicted was a Bellville police officer currently on unpaid administrative suspension. Maurice King, 33, 3555 Possum Run Road, was indicted for attempted receiving stolen property (four counts), dereliction of duty (two counts), failure to report a crime and receiving stolen property.
In regard to Powers’ charges, Richland County Assistant Prosecutor Bambi Couch-Page said each count is a felony of the second degree since Powers was convicted previously of sexual battery with a minor.

A Columbus City Schools employee was arrested Thursday after police said he was the source of child pornography that was distributed over the Internet.
Webb David Rieder, 32, a classroom aid at Valley Forge Elementary School in Columbus, Ohio has been arrested and charged with pandering sexually oriented matter involving a juvenile.
Detectives seized Rieder's two computers from his home on Burgyone Court on Monday. According to the search warrant, police downloaded a file that contained a movie of "preteen boys engaged in sexual activity." Investigators also found "114 compact discs in a paper bag,"
Rieder is employed by the City of Columbus, and works as a teacher's aide at Valley Forge Elementary School.
Liam Westbrook, who lives in the same apartment complex as Rieder, said he was quiet and rarely had any visitors to his home.
"It's kind of a shock," Westbrook said. "He lives right next to us and even though he was quiet, he didn't give me any trouble."

Another high school teacher in trouble with the law after allegedly having inappropriate contact with an underage student.
Malvern High School's 22-year-old wrestling coach, Mark A. Common, was arrested Tuesday morning at the Superintendent's Office on sex charges involving a 16-year-old female student.

A former Fairless middle-school teacher is headed to prison for having a sexual relationship with an underage teen.
Stark County Common Pleas Judge Richard D. Reinbold Jr. sentenced Kathryn Gill to four years in prison Monday, with the option of placing her on probation after six months.
Gill, 29, will be subject to counseling, must register as a sex offender for the next 25 years and has to pay a $2,500 fine. She pleaded guilty in August to unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.
Gill has no prior criminal record. Defense attorney Anthony Koukoutas said she had pleaded guilty to spare the victim or her own family any more pain.
A tearful Gill didn't speak during the hearing. She has resigned from the district and surrendered her teaching license.

A man once entrusted with educating and coaching students at Madison High School will now spend three years in prison for having sexual encounters with one of them.
A judge gave 32-year old David Wagner that sentence Thursday.
Wagner admitted he had a sexual contact with an 18-year-old girl he coached in softball, but maintained that it was a consensual relationship.
Because of his position of authority, however, the crime is a third-degree felony. On Thursday Wagner pleaded with a Butler County judge for leniency, saying his wife and family need him as well.
"I know I have to be punished," he said with tears in his eyes, "But I hope, as I said in my letter to you, that you can consider my family as well. I have two small children who I am very important to and the worst thing I ever had to do in my life was hold my daughter last night and tell her that I had to go."

A former 9th grade teacher at Shore Junior High School in Mentor has been sentenced to 3 years in prison for having sexual contact with a student.
Maggie Laughlin, 23, broke down in court and apologized during the sentencing hearing.
She had previously pleaded guilty to 8 counts of unlawful sexual contact with a juvenile. Laughlin told the judge she had performed oral sex on the student.
Laughlin could have faced up to 12 years in prison. Her defense lawyer asked the judge to give her probation since this was her first offense. In the end, the judge followed the request of the prosecution which had asked for the 3 year prison term. Laughlin was arrested in June. The job at Shore teaching math was Laughlin's first teaching assignment out of college. Laughlin passed all the required background checks before being hired because she had no previous criminal record.

A former teacher who was sent to prison for attempting to meet a teenage boy for sex learned Monday that he will not be released from prison early.
Mark Boster was sentenced in April to a year in prison. Boster, 46, pleaded guilty to arranging a date over the Internet with a 14-year-old boy, 10TV News reported.
The boy was actually an undercover police officer posing as a teenager. A judge denied Boster's request since he has served only four months of his sentence, 10TV News reported. In addition to serving the rest of his prison sentence, Boster has also had his teaching license revoked. He was formerly a teacher with Columbus City Schools.

A former assistant band director convicted of having sexual relations with two underage females was sentenced Friday to two years in prison and will be labeled a sex offender for the next 15 years.
In addressing the court regarding the actions of former Milton-Union High School assistant band director Anthony Spahr, a mother of one of the victims said his “quest for self-satisfaction” has left many victims, and for that there is “no sentence long enough.”
“You not only stole her virginity, but you also stole her innocence,” she said. “You took away the spring in her step, the sparkle in her eye. You ruined her senior year of high school.”

A teacher accused of writing love letters to a junior high school student pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in Harrison County on Monday. Richard Prusha pleaded not guilty to menacing by stalking, a fourth-degree felony. Prusha is accused of writing several love letters to a 13-year-old female student while teaching at Harrison Hills Junior High School, officials said.
The girl's parents said they found the letters and turned them over to the school, prompting the investigation. Michael Washington, assistant Harrison County prosecutor, said Prusha was released on his own recognizance and is not permitted to have any contact with the alleged victim or any other underage girls -- with the exception of family members -- until the court makes a final decision.

A Brunswick karate instructor is going to prison for 12 ½ years for having sex with teenage girls. In April, 32-year-old Gary Gray pleaded guilty to 40 charges, including sexual battery and gross sexual imposition.
Prosecutors said Gray had sex with two teen girls several times last year while they attended Gray's Karate For Kids in North Royalton.

Jason Simmons, who played for the Buckeyes in the early 1990's, faced up to 15 years in prison when he was sentenced Thursday in Dayton. Prosecutors said Simmons, a teacher at Northmont Middle School in Dayton, developed a relationship with the girl following a school trip to Washington D.C. A substitute teacher on a long-term assignment at Akron's Buchtel High School was placed on unpaid leave last week after being charged with corruption of a minor and unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.
Albert J. Calabrese III, 24, of Kent, was arrested last week after Hudson police received a report involving Calabrese and a 14-year-old girl from Hudson. Stow Police Chief Louis Dirker Jr. said today that Calabrese and the girl allegedly chatted via the Internet, then met at a Hudson area movie theater and drove to a Stow parking lot, where the alleged incident took place May 17.
Connie Hathorn,the Akron Public Schools executive director of human resources, said Calabrese was placed on leave without pay pending further investigation. Calabrese is free on a $15,000 personal recognizance bond. He is to appear at a hearing June 3 in Cuyahoga Falls Municipal Court.

An internal investigation at Strongsville High School last November convinced school officials that no criminal activity occurred between social studies teacher John Bacho, 32, and a 17-year-old junior in his class.
But a Cuyahoga County grand jury disagreed Monday, charging Bacho with five counts of sexual battery and a single count of possession of a criminal tool -- his 2002 Ford pickup truck -- in which police suspect one of the incidents took place.
"Bacho gives all the dedicated teachers a black eye," County Prosecutor Bill Mason said. "We entrust our teachers with the responsibility of educating our children, not to become predators in the classroom."

CLEVELAND -- A former Lakewood teacher will spend two years in prison after a judge sentenced him Wednesday on charges connected to sexual involvement with a student. William Rabel agreed to a plea deal in January and pleaded guilty to 10 counts of sexual battery. On Wednesday, Judge Dick Ambrose sentenced Rabel to two years on each of the 10 counts. The sentences run concurrently, so the total amount of the sentence is two years in prison.
The judge also labeled Rabel as a Tier 3 sexual offender which means Rabel will have to register with law enforcement every 90 days for the rest of his life. Before sentencing, Rabel addressed the court and said he was deeply remorseful for what had happened. Rabel was charged after his sexual involvement with a 17-year-old female student was discovered last year. The former student also addressed the court and asked the judge to show leniency for Rabel who she described as a best friend. Rabel resigned his position with Lakewood Schools.

When Upper Arlington swim coach and art teacher Kevin Chapman was charged Feb. 26 with two counts of rape and sexual battery against a former student, something predictable happened.
Some leapt to his defense. They voiced their support in letters to the editor, in e-mails to The Dispatch and on a Facebook page. They criticized police for making a show of his arrest, though Upper Arlington police said students were kept out of the hallways during the arrest.
Just as predictably, others presumed he is guilty. Cases involving an adult in a position of trust who has been accused of sexually abusing children or teens divide communities like few others.

Benjamin S. Williams, 23, of Galion pleaded guilty Jan. 30 to two felony counts of disseminating matter harmful to a juvenile and two misdemeanor counts of contributing to the unruliness or delinquency of a child
Richland County Common Pleas Judge James Henson sentenced Williams to 18 months in prison and suspended that sentence in favor of probation. Henson noted probation was the recommendation of the people who completed a pre-sentence investigation report on Williams. Under the statute, Williams will not be designated as a sex offender.
