Salt Lake City police arrested a West High School teacher suspected of sexual activity with a student.
The teacher identified as 45-year-old Jose Bernaf Fanjul was arrested Tuesday afternoon.
The Salt Lake Police Department Special Victims Unit worked with a 17-year-old victim and her father to bring the teacher’s arrest.
Our detectives waited until after school to make sure as few students as possible were around, said Lara Jones, Salt Lake City police.
Students say Fanjul was one of the favorites at the school. He taught at West High for the past three years. They say he often helped kids after class and was never outwardly inappropriate.
Fanjul was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on multiple counts of forcible sexual abuse and forcible sodomy. He is on administrative leave while the investigation continues.
This is the second sex scandal involving West High staff to hit the school in recent days. Just last week former counselor Marco Herrera was sentenced to up to 15 years in prison for having sex with a 14 year old girl.

A former junior-high-school teacher who was accused of having sexual relations with a 16-year-old boy pleaded guilty to reduced charges on Monday.
Jennifer Candida Gonzales, 33, of Payson, entered guilty pleas in Provo's 4th District Court to two counts of attempted forcible sexual abuse, a third-degree felony. The charges were reduced from forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony. "She just wants to get it behind her," said Mike Esplin, Gonzales's defense attorney.

A sentencing hearing for Gonzales was scheduled for July 28. Attempted forcible sexual abuse carries a penalty of up to 5 years in prison.

Cache County elementary school teacher has been charged with child sex abuse. 33-year-old Scott Rogers taught at Thomas Edison Charter School South in Nibley. He faces two counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child and has now been suspended with one week of school left.
Rogers has been at the school for three years, first teaching fourth grade, then second grade. School officials say a pre-hire background check turned up nothing out of the ordinary.
Former Hurricane High teacher and track coach was sentenced Thursday to 30 days in jail for having sex with a 17-year-old male student.

A popular drama teacher was arrested after a two-month police investigation revealed that computers he used at Roy High School and at home contained images of child pornography.
Kamron Klitgaard, 42, was booked and released from jail Friday on suspicion of sexual exploitation and distributing pornographic material. He faces two felony and 10 misdemeanor counts.
Klitgaard was put on unpaid leave after a district investigation Jan. 4, when students and parents were told he was absent because of an illness.
The Weber School District planned to fire Klitgaard on Feb. 1, after giving him 30 days' notice.

Leisa Ward, a mother of four, pleaded guilty on child sex-related charges in a deal that led prosecutors to drop the most serious counts against her. Ward agreed to plead guilty on charges of unlawful sexual conduct and, as a result will not be charged with anything else.
Ward was arrested in Nov. 2007 following reports that she engaged in sexual activities with at least five boys, whose ages were 16 or 17 at the time. Nephi Police said the allegations started as rumors that were eventually corroborated.
Ward, who formerly taught as a substitute teacher in the Juab County School District, will be sentenced on Feb. 28 but due to her plea deal she will avoid serious felony and misdemeanor child sex and lewdness charges. However, she still will face sentencing on 11 charges stemming from the illegal sex acts.
