Daniel Markofski, 48, was sentenced to one year in prison and 18 months of extended supervision on two felony counts of exposing a child to harmful material and a misdemeanor county of committing a sex act with a child 16 or older. Markofski was charged in April, after police said they found him watching pornography with two teenage girls at a Super-8 Motel in Glendale, Wis. The girls, now ages 16 and 17, were in various states of undress, according to police reports.

Markofski pleaded guilty to the charges in September, as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors, who requested that he be sentenced to 18 months in prison and 18 months of extended supervision.

Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen announced that on Monday October 13, 2008, attorneys for the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ), acting as special prosecutors for Lafayette County, filed a criminal complaint in Lafayette County Circuit Court against Todd M. Strang of Shullsburg, Wisconsin, alleging 2 counts of having sexual intercourse with a high school student over the age of 16 while he was employed as a teacher at that same high school. The allegations are felony charges that carry a maximum penalty of fines of $10,000 and 10 years imprisonment for each count.

The charges are the result of an investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Justice's Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI). “Investigation and prosecution of cases involving those who prey on children are a high priority of the Department of Justice and we will continue to assist local law enforcement and prosecutors in child maltreatment investigations,” Van Hollen said. Strang’s initial appearance was held Monday, October 13, 2008. He was released on a $10,000 signature bond with conditions that he have no unsupervised contact with children and that he not attempt to engage in an occupation or participate in volunteer activities that place him in direct contact with children under 18 years of age. The matter is set for a scheduling conference on December 16, 2008 in Lafayette County.

A warrant has been issued for an assistant principal in Milwaukee accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old boy.

Fifty-four-year-old Gilberto Brown was charged Tuesday with sexual assault of a child, repeated acts, with fewer than three violations.

Milwaukee Public Schools spokeswoman Roseann St. Aubin says Brown has been placed on leave from Lincoln Avenue School. She says the now 18-year-old victim was not a student at the school and no current or former students are involved in the case.

The warrant says the teen told investigators he was 14 when he began spending nights at Brown’s apartment, where the assaults occurred.

A working phone number for Brown could not be found, and he did not have an attorney listed in online court records.

An Outagamie County sheriff's deputy is charged with fourth-degree sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl and two counts of disorderly conduct while off-duty. Police say the girl attended the same high school in Freedom where 35-year-old Adam Burrows was the police school liaison officer.

The criminal complaint in the case accuses the deputy of inappropriately touching the girl while she was camping with another family near Lake Poygan in July. According to the complaint, while the 16-year-old girl alleges Burrows kissed her inside his cabin, investigators say the teenager told them Burrows put his hand down her pants out by a campfire in front of at least one other person.

According to the complaint, the girl "says she kept trying to move around the fire but the defendant kept following her. She thought the defendant was pretty drunk."

Police say the teen said she knows the sheriff's deputy because she goes to school at Freedom High School where Burrows was the police school liaison officer. It's a position at the school Burrows no longer holds. Burrows is on paid administrative leave pending the criminal and an internal investigation.

"The misconduct in question here took place when he was off-duty and out of the county, and not related to his assignment (as liaison officer). Still, any alleged conduct of that nature is of great concern to the department," Captain Mike Jobe, Outagamie County Sheriff's Department, said.

Former St. Francis math teacher Kelly Marie Sweet pleaded guilty today to having sexual contact with a 14-year-old student. She was sentenced to serve 25 days in jail and placed on two years of probation.

Sweet, 27, has also permanently relinquished her Wisconsin teaching license. She was ordered to register as a sex offender for the duration of her probation.

"You were in position to protect and guide, to keep your students safe," Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Patricia McMahon told Sweet. "Not assault them."

Sweet was originally charged with second-degree sexual assault of a child, which is a felony punishable by up to 40 years in prison. In a plea agreement, the charge was amended to fourth-degree sexual assault, which is a misdemeanor.

The assault occurred March 9 at Sweet's Milwaukee condominium. Sweet now lives in Jefferson County and works as a paralegal in her father's law firm.

A judge has sentenced a Grandville Middle School science teacher to a year's probation for obscene disorderly conduct in a public locker room, and district leaders are reviewing the misdemeanor conviction to determine whether it might impact the man's job.

Dennis James Graveldinger, 48, of Alto, pleaded no contest Wednesday to obscene disorderly conduct and was sentenced the same day by Hudsonville District Judge Ken Post.

Graveldinger was masturbating in the men's locker room in the fieldhouse at Grand Valley State University in Allendale Township at 6:20 p.m. June 12, according to a Grand Valley Police Department report and court records.

A 37-year-old high school teacher from Lamberton has been charged with possession of child pornography after a search of his home computer.

Jason Kedl is a teacher a Red Rock Central High School. He appeared on court on Monday. He was released on the promise that he reappear on court, that he have no unsupervised contact with minors and that he stay off the Web.

The criminal complaint says the investigation started when the state Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force tipped local authorities that suspicious files were being posted from a Red Rock Internet address.

The address was tracked to the Kedl residence. A search of the home allegedly turned up 438 images or movie files of alleged child pornography.

A suspended fifth-grade teacher in Rice Lake accused of inappropriate contact with male students had all six charges of disorderly conduct dismissed Monday in Dunn County Court.

As part of a plea agreement, the charges were dropped against David M. Suino, 48, of Rice Lake. Suino agreed to resign his teaching position with the Rice Lake school district and surrender his state teaching license.

Circuit Judge Ralph Ramirez also ordered Craig A. Gullicksen, 59, of Brookfield, to serve three years' probation. The former music and computer teacher was convicted of three misdemeanor counts of fourth-degree sexual assault of a child, but he will not have to register as a sex offender.

He will have to register if he violates the terms of his probation. The judge ordered the jail term with family and work release privileges. He also stayed two consecutive nine-month jail terms for the other two counts - also subject to the terms of probation.

Conditions of probation include having no contact with the victim or her parents and not participating in any activity or job involving children under 16.

A Wisconsin teacher arrested in January for exposing himself online to what he thought was an underage girl, but was actually a detective in Kenner, surrendered in Louisiana this morning, Kenner police said.

Michael C. Sprinkel, 41, of Sussex, Wisconsin surrendered at the Kenner jail to Kenner Detective Robert McGraw and was booked with four counts of computer-aided solicitation for sexual purposes, four counts of indecent behavior with juveniles and one count of pornography involving juveniles, said Lt. Wayne McInnis, Kenner Police Department spokesman.

At the time of his arrest, Sprinkel was employed as a social studies teacher and girls softball coach at an Elmbrook School District High School in Wisconsin. The undercover operation began in August 2007, when the Kenner detective went into an online chat room posing as a Kenner underage girl.

A former teacher and coach at a West Allis school was sentenced Thursday to up to 14 months in prison and five years probation for having repeated sexual contact with a student there in the 1990s.

Jason Crary, 37, pleaded guilty in January to four counts of sexual assault by a school staff, charges that had been filed in October after a 27-year-old woman came forward with accusations about Crary's conduct while he was a teacher and soccer coach at Heritage Christian Schools.

Circuit Judge Jeffrey A. Wagner also sentenced Crary to four years in prison on each of three other counts, but stayed the sentence for five years probation, which will be transferred to Ohio when Crary completes his prison term.

Crary left for Ohio in 1999 and was the girls varsity soccer coach at Worthington Christian Schools near Columbus when he was arrested last fall. Last month, the woman filed a civil lawsuit against Crary and Heritage Christian Schools accusing the school of being negligent in its hiring and supervision of Crary.
